ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
District 3292
Yours in Rotary
Chintamani Bhattarai
District Governor (2018-19)
It is my honor to extend my best wishes to the entire Rotary Club of Patan family on
the occasion of our 33rd Charter Day. We are proud to have a vibrant club with a long
and outstanding history of service. It gives me great pleasure and pride to serve as
Rtn. Gabriele Mallapaty the 33rd President and the second female President.
President
What are the characteristics of a vibrant club? The new Rotary Vision Statement:
“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting
change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves”, is so fitting to
what our club has stood for and is known for.
Our members have joined hands and taken action together since three decades.
This has not only given strategic direction to ‘Serve’, but also created lasting change
within many communities in Nepal while creating strong bonds of friendship and
positive energy in our club.
Let me iterate a few examples of what the 32 earlier teams have achieved through
their dedicated service and visionary thinking – establishment of Nepal Orthopedic
Hospital as a founding member; completion of numerous Matching Grants; completion
of 3H grant for differently abled; continuation of Prajapati Education Endowment Fund
(PEEF) scholarship project, now in its 28th year, providing scholarships to thousands
of students from economically deprived families; and successful completion of four
large Rotary global grant projects with another five currently being implemented.
Finally, on behalf of the RC Patan family, I take this opportunity to thank our
Coordinator Rtn. Jeevan Kumar Shrestha, the editorial team, and contributors of
articles and advertisers for their efforts and contributions for this year’s Lalitdhara
Souvenir.
Let us all join hands to ‘Be the Inspiration’ and continue the outstanding work done
with commitment to pursue the challenges that lie ahead.
Sincerely.
Gabriele Mallapaty

A t the KEEA awards ceremony, the first prizewinner, Ms. Samdoma Sherpa, made an
outstanding speech thanking the RCP and all the sponsors of the PEEF and KEEA,
on behalf of all PEEF-supported schools and recipients of KEEA. She represented all the
students when she spoke about how grateful they have been for the recognitions. She
cited her own example as a success story – coming from illiterate and economically poor
but determined parents who facilitated all their five daughters’ education, she mentioned that the RCP support has been
truly inspirational and has indeed changed her life.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise
and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
First
The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
Second
High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful
occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
Third
The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life;
Fourth
The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship
of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
