When it comes to running a proper child care program, the Early Childhood Center in
Channelview possesses practices that reach the standards of what a program should have. Their
practices include teaching the kids with a guiding hand, properly caring for them when needed,
and allowing them to reach new milestones in their lives. The school also meets the needs of its
students, including special education. The teachers can adjust their way of teaching and testing to
make sure the students are able to understand what they are learning, and that each student
reaches their academic expectations.
The Early Childhood Center’s main purpose is to make sure that each child has the same
opportunities in school, no matter if some have something that hinders them from performing
like other students. As for it being well-run, the school is led by individuals whose main concern
is the well being of the children. As mentioned before, the school meets the needs of all students
academically, but also in other areas of learning too. Some examples are using certain chairs for
students who don’t stay seated, or special toys that they can play with after completing their
assignments.
When it comes to the observation tool, the school has used this tool when it comes to
seeing how the students are progressing throughout the year. This includes them progressing in
learning how to write, read, or use problem solving skills. Observation plays an important part in
each program by how it tells us if the students are doing well, and what areas they still struggle
with. If they have made improvements in certain areas, then that will let the teacher know that
they can proceed to more advanced areas.
As for how we make sure that the records that we take for the students are accurate, we
try to keep an eyes on each student through their completed work. For example, there is a child
in the class who usually scribbles when coloring, but recently they have shown signs of
improvement. Things like coloring inside the lines, and being able to hold their writing utensil
properly. From there we can record this child’s improvement, making sure it’s filed correctly
with the right name and information, and continue to help them reach their goals in school.
In the end, the Early Childhood Center has always done its best in every area when it
comes to teaching the students. The areas mentioned before in teaching show how the school can
adapt certain teachers to assist all students. It can also adapt its environment to ensure the safety
of the kids, such as the chairs for the kids who run around so much. The school also makes sure
to be up to date with any new achievement from the children.
From giving every child equal opportunities, to keeping accurate observations, the school
shows great competence when it comes to properly running a childcare center. I have also
experienced these in person by seeing how the teachers teach the children as the school years
progresses. I have seen the kids learn new things, and how they actually get excited about it. In
the end, the ECC prides itself on being a gentle but encouraging environment for the kids that
gives them a desire for learning about the world around them.
