(to establish a well-run, purposeful program that is responsive to participant needs):
To have a purposeful program we must assess children various times through the year; by doing
so we ensure that our program is meeting the expectations of parents, teachers, and Education Agency.
Keeping up to date on evaluating children can benefit children’s ability to function normally
across various spheres. The purpose of assessments in early childhood is to determines the student’s
strengths and set goals for instruction. Doing assessments guides my planning for activities, it also
supports teacher and family partnerships.
CS V a: The tools I use in classroom to complete my assessment are the Circle Progress Monitoring
Observables. I complete six assessments that consist of Approaches to learning checklist, Motivation to
read checklist, Physical development and health checklist, Speech production sentence skills checklist
and lastly Social emotional checklist. I use all these checklists to have an idea of how children are
developing and to perceive in what area they might need more help. For example, with the Social
emotional checklist I observe if students have reached key milestones that are typically reach during the
Kindergarten year. Such as if child joins into the middle of activities, play, and conversations. Also, to see
if they begging to identify and understand the feelings of others. Observing children and documenting
progress helps me create a more purposeful learning environment that keeps children interested and
engaged in learning and gets them school ready. Assessing children is important to support learning and
development. It can give us the opportunity to screen children with special needs. I ensure to be
objective while doing and assessment, I don’t jump to conclusions, or make assumptions. I make sure to
stay focused on the facts.
