Code of ethics refers to the correct decision of the organization that assists in fulfilling its

duties for the society or the people and also assists in building the value of the organization. The

ethical aspect normally assists to differentiate an organization from its competitors. In dissimilar

ways, code of ethics refers to the people in the organization is considered the interest of all the

stakeholders like shareholders, customers, dealers, employees, government and suppliers. In

current times, a lot of multinational organizations implemented the code of ethics or corporate

governance in the organization in order to make sure that all the employees and the people

follow business ethics and also offer the best quality products or the services of the customers.

This paper describes and analyzes the code of ethics of the both Starbuck’s and the McDonald’s.

This paper also contrasts and compares the code of ethics of the both companies (Australian

Psychological Society, 2014).

Code of Business Ethics for Starbucks’ Corporation

Starbucks implemented the code of ethics in the organization in order to protect the right

and interest of the partners, people and employees. Starbucks normally considers their 150,000

partners as the heart of the business; therefore it is committed to the code of ethics for offering a

safe work environment, positive and welcoming for them. The company is incessant reviewing

their COE policies to meet the needs of their workforce .Starbucks’ COE policy strictly prohibits

the unlawful discrimination or the harassment in the workplace and offers equal employment

opportunity of their employees and partners. Starbuck delimited all the employees at all the

levels to read, to acknowledge, to follow and also adhere to COE policy of prohibiting the

discrimination and the harassment in organization (Bussing-Burks, 2012).

In terms of the COE, Starbucks has not only committed to follow the law rather than

committing to act ethically at every situation. Starbucks is normally focused on the maintaining

the personal relationship with the partners other than the financial terms of the business.

Starbuck’s offers training of the partners related CEE and also distributes them Standards of

Business Conduct booklet and other awareness materials, so partners capable of making the

suitable ethical decisions at work. The company usually believes that conducting business

ethically and also striving to do the correct thing are significant aspects of attaining the success

in the global market (Bussing-Burks, 2012)

Code of Business Ethics for McDonald’s Corporation

McDonald’s is committed in conducting business ethically via conducting business

ethically and the COE that reflected its values. McDonald’s Standards of Business Conduct is

normally committed to be trustful, dependable, and ethical and also serves this business conduct

booklet to the partners as the guide; therefore they are making good decisions and also

conducting business ethically. Each year McDonald's employees normally certify that they have

read, followed and also apply the company’s Standards of Business Conduct. McDonald's offers

regular complete training of the employees on the anti-bribery laws, the COE standards and

several other laws and regulations and other definite policies. McDonald's has followed a Global

Anti-Corruption Policy that normally comprises anti-bribery laws and the FCPA guidance for the

employees. Additionally, McDonald's recruited the Global Compliance Office monitors those

that enforces the company's policies prohibiting the money laundering, the bribery and doing

business with the terrorist groups according to the FCPA guideline (Gilbert, 2011).

Conclusion

On the basis of the discussion of the both companies COE, it can be concluded that both

Starbuck’s and McDonald’s focused and followed the ethics in the organization. Additionally,

both the McDonald’s and Starbuck’s offer regular training, the guidelines and other materials

that are related to the COE of the partners and the employees, so that they behave ethically in the

work.
