BOOK EXTENSION ACTIVITY - LESSON PLAN

1. Pre-K/ CCSD K-2nd Grade/Nevada Core Standards:

G8.K.1 Recognize weather changes with the seasons and how people adapt to those changes.

2. Objectives:
SWBAT + Bloom’s verb
 Students will be able to describe activities that can happen in different weather
circumstances

3. Materials/Equipment:

 Weather activities worksheet


 Crayons
 Pencils

4. Teaching:
A. Plan for reading the book
 The teacher will begin by stating that they will be reading the book “Are you ready to
play outside
 The teacher will read the cover, author, and illustrator
 Before reading the teacher will ask the students for predictions
 Once students have stated their predictions, they will then continue to read the book
 While reading the teacher will ask questions such as
o How do you think pig was feeling?
o How can they solve this problem?
 After reading the teacher will ask if their predictions were correct
B. Plan for extension activity:
 The teacher will explain that there are times where the weather changes all of a sudden
like in the book
 The teacher will continue explain that sometimes they need to be creative and figure out
new activities when plans and the weather changes
 The teacher will give out the worksheet and explain that there are three boxes labeled
sunny, rainy, snow
 Each student will have to think of 1 activity that they can do in each of those weather
conditions and draw it out in each box

5. Closure:
 After each student drew and thought about an activity for each weather they have the
chance to present to the class of what activity they thought about
 After each student was able to present the teacher will close by stating that even though
there ay be a change of plans using creativity they can still do activities
 Teacher will also go over the plans for the rest of the day and the plans for the following
day
