2. Objectives:
SWBAT + Bloom’s verb
Students will be able to identify and draw a range of emotions
3. Materials/Equipment:
Blank Fish worksheet
Pencils
Glue
4. Teaching:
A. Plan for reading the book
The teacher will begin by stating that they will be reading the book This is not my Hat
The teacher will read the author illustrator and the tile
Before reading the teacher will ask the students for predictions on what will happen in the
story
While reading the story the teacher will ask the students questions such as:
o “Why did he steal the hat?
o “do you think he will give it back?”
After completing the story, the teacher will ask the students more questions such as;
o “What happened to the fish at the end?
o Do you think he was eaten?
Before the activity begins the teacher will point out that the fish show emotions using
their eyes. For example, when they are sleeping, they are closed, when the big fish is
suspicious he squints his eyes, etc.
B. Plan for extension activity: Fish expressions and feelings
Students will be given a worksheet with 4 blank spaces with a blank outline of a fish on it
The students will be instructed that they will need to read the 4 emotions and feelings that
they have which is “happy, sad, mad, and surprised”
For each of the fish they need to draw those emotions then label with fish has each
emotion
In the end the students should have 4 fish labeled happy, mad, sad, and surprised, and
their facial expressions matching
5. Closure:
After the students finish the activity the teacher will collect the worksheet
The teacher will explain that you can tell which emotion people are using by looking at
their facial expressions
Such as in the book and what they drew
The teacher will explain what activity is next and what they will be doing the following
day
