Professional Goals/Growth Plan for PS1

Name: Bryson Quilliams School: Raymond Elementary school (Grade 6)

Practicum Dates: November 16th to December 17th 2020

Professional Goals
Goal 1: Create engaging lessons to increase student participation in the classroom.
Rational: During my teaching experience, I have found that the more engaging a lesson is, the
more involved and interested students are in the work and that they are less likely to misbehave
or be distracted while learning.
Strategies: Increase student participation in class discussions by random selecting. Teach by
using more hands-on activities. Ask teacher mentor to provide me with advice to engage students
as well of give me feedback in my lesson planning.
Indicators of achievement: Students being less distracted. Students more engaged in the class.
Having more conversations in class conversations.
Timeline: End of November

Goal 2: Develop a relationship with my students

Rational: Developing a relationship with the students will assist in their learning, their trust in
me, their engagements, and our classroom culture.
Strategies: Provide opportunities to learn more about the students (class activities, journaling,
being active with them in free time). Participate in recess, lunch, and different social activities
with the students. Creating a time in the schedule for them to talk about themselves and not just
their work.
Indicators of Achievement: Students engaging in conversation with me. Students not afraid of
approaching me for help. Students have more confidence in classroom discussions.
Timeline: November to December

Summary of Growth and Goals Achieved / Reflections on Professional Growth

Throughout my PS1, I achieved my goals of creating relationships and creating engaging
lessons. These became two of my strong points as a beginning teacher. I can still become better
at these goals, as all teachers could, but I feel that from the beginning of my PS1 to the end, these
goals progressed tremendously.
I know I achieved my foal of creating engaging lessons by the end of my PS1 because of
the students excitement for my projects and the review games I created. At the end of my PS1,
my review games became so engaging that the students were requesting to play them even
during their free time. I could also tell that I formed relationships with the students through the
conversations I had with them. These conversations did not stop in the classroom. They
continued at recess and at lunch and they seemed genuinely interested in talking and having a
relationship with me.
Through my PS1, I grew as a teacher, from setting attainable goals, and from all the
teaching experience I had. I learned how to create a complete lesson plan, though I can still have
much improvement, how to create a strong hook and engagement in my lessons, and much more.
This was an incredibly valuable experience to me and I am looking forward to continued growth
in PS2.
