Movement

Music Lesson Plan

Skyler Nelson/ Stephanie Page

Title: Banana Banana Meatball Grade Level: K indergarten Source: Movement Models #1-4 from
Dr. McConkey & youtube

Materials Needed:

● Laptop (or other electronic device) accessible to youtube - will go to the song “Banana
Banana Meatball” by Blazer Fresh/GoNoodle on youtube.
- link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ9q4U2P3ig
● Something to play music louder (speaker, smart board, etc.)
● A couple examples of patterns in case there are none in the classroom. ○ Ex) wear a shirt
with stripes, draw a pattern on the whiteboard, bring in anything you can make a
pattern out of and set it up around the room.

Procedure:

A.S: “Who knows what a pattern is?... Can you give me an example?” “Does anyone see a
pattern around the classroom?” “Is anyone here wearing a pattern?”

1. Tell the class: “We have a very fun activity to do. We’re going to be moving in patterns!”
2. Start off by first introducing the song to the students. Play the song through while
everyone is sitting.
3. Have a short discussion about the song. Ask the students if they could recognize any
patterns in the song.
4. Tell everyone to stand up *make sure they are still arms-width apart.* Play the song
again and teach them the moves to the “banana, banana, meatball” pattern (describe
what those movements are).
- See music video (link in materials needed)
5. Practice a few times until they get it down. Repeat step 4 with the other patterns/dance
moves in the song.
6. Practice the whole song together slowly (pausing it at times to model the dance moves
again if needed).
7. Add free dance at the parts of the song where no pattern is being sung. Play the song
through with no pausing.
8. Put the students into groups of 3-5 (depending on number in class). Give each group a
number.
9. Separate the groups around the classroom and give about 5 mins. for each group to
create a pattern together, along with dance moves.
- *the teacher should be walking around to see if students need ideas for
patterns/making sure they are creating actual patterns.
10. Call the class back to a big circle, arms-width apart.
11. Play the song again. This time, pausing at the “pattern” parts of the song. 12.
While the “free dance” part of the song is playing, the teacher will call out a group
number. That group will run into the center of the circle.
13. When the music pauses, the group in the center will sing their pattern and show the
moves to the pattern. The rest of the class will repeat the pattern & moves with the
group.
14. Repeat until all groups have had a chance to go into the center of the circle.

Closure:

Ask children questions such as: “What were some of your favorite patterns we learned today?”
“Can anybody remember what the first pattern of the song was?... What about the second
pattern?” “Which patterns were easy, which patterns were harder?”

“I hope you guys had fun today! When you leave the classroom, see if you can find any
patterns. Maybe in your home, or maybe somewhere outside. Next time I see you, I’ll ask
if anyone found any patterns and what the pattern was.”

Educational Objective:

By the end of this lesson, students will have learned...
