Music Lesson Plan

Title: Circus Animals Grade Level: 1st

Materials needed: Song (Spotify): The Circus is coming to town (Kidsongs)

Procedure:
Anticipatory Set Instructional Input (Modeling Check for Understanding Practice) Closure

A.S: Have you been to the circus? What do we see at the circus? What do
we see in our minds when we hear the song?

1. Have class sit and discuss things that they would see at a circus.
2. Why do people like going to a circus?
3. Have students sit criss-cross applesauce and seat them quietly
4. Have them listen to the song “The Circus is Coming to Town”
5. Have the students write down things that they hear in the song.
6. Ask the students what kind of circus animals and people were in the song.
7. What is the mood of the song ?
8. Have students split into 3 groups
9. Group 1 roars like a lion when they hear the song talk about lions
10. Group 2 does the same, but move with a trunk like an elephant instead
11. Group 3 Juggles like a Juggler
12. When they are doing their part they skip in place.
13. Do the same activity over again but group 1 moves to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 1
14. Start Song and began activity
15. First time do the movement with the students, second time allow them to
listen and do the movements on their own.
