Music Lesson Plan

Title: Bluebird Grade Level: K

Materials needed:
Pictures of birds and their habitats.

Procedure:

A.S: We heard from your teacher, that y’all are learning about animals and
their habitats. Can you tell me about any Birds you know of? (Wait for
response).

1. Ask if they know about some of the birds, we have printed pictures of,
and their habitats. Show them the pictures and their habitats. 2. Next we
introduce the song.
“Blue Bird, Blue Bird through my win-dow. Blue Bird, Blue bird
through my win-dow. Blue Bird, Blue Bird through my win-dow. Oh Blue
Bird aren’t you tired?”
3. We have them sing it with us a few times.
4. Once they are comfortable, we have them get in a circle up and explain
the game.
5. Children get into circle and hold hands.
6. One child is the “bird” and flies through the “window” (Under the other
student’s arms”
7. Once the bird is tired, the student goes up to another students and asks,
“Name of student would you like to be a bird?”.
8. Game repeats a few times so that students feel comfortable playing. 9. Then
we have children pick the type of birds they want to be based on the pictures
we’ve brought.
10. When a new bird is picked “through my win-dow” changes to “through
my *insert habitat of bird*”
11. Let kids play a few times, trying to give everyone a chance. Or until we
run out of time.
12. Have everyone sit down.
Closure: Can you tell me which bird lived by the Ocean? (Seagulls or/ and
Pelicans) Can you tell me which bird lived in the Rainforest? (Parrot or/and
Toucans) Can you tell me which bird lives in the desert? (Owl or/and
Roadrunners) Can you tell me which bird lived in the Mountains? (Wood
Pecker or/and Golden Eagle)

explore the habitats of a variety of birds within the context of Bluebird, Bluebird through
