“My Situation”
SECOND CONDITIONAL
The second conditional uses the past simple after if, then 'would' and the infinitive:
(We can use 'were' instead of 'was' with 'I' and 'he/she/it'. This is mostly done in formal writing).
First, we can use it to talk about things in the future that are probably not going to be true. Maybe I'm imagining some
dream for example.
If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house.(I probably won't win the lottery)
She would pass the exam if she ever studied.(She never studies, so this won't happen)
Second, we can use it to talk about something in the present which is impossible, because it's not true. Is that clear? Have
a look at the examples:
If I had his number, I would call him. (I don't have his number now, so it's impossible for me to call him).
Look at this picture: As you can see in this image we have the difference between will and would
ACTIVITY:
1) Write a short text where you have to describe your improbable or hypothetical situacion and its consequence. Try to use
connectors. (Min 5 lines)
I had a problem with a friend, and when I told someone else, I asked
What would you do if you were in my shoes?. He did not know what to answer me at that time I asked
to which he replied: “I would help you if I could.”
But I don't know what you should do right now, let me think about it, and if you need something else and if you need
something else
