(Camiling Hymn)

INTRODUCTION

I am Darwin Ramirez Sobredo, 17 years old, currently residing in Tarlac province, and I'm
single. If out of nowhere, you meet a stranger, introduce himself by the information that I have
just said, and ask you if you want to marry him, would you answer YES? Probably NOT. Why?
Because you don't want to marry someone whom you just met. What if I am a criminal or
something. So in order for you to say yes, you first want to know things about him like his
background, lifestyle, etc. Basically, you want to know his HISTORY.

Same as through with places. Before we go to somewhere, we first check the place, it's people,
the food, culture, etc. Because we don't want to visit a place where we are not comfortable.
Basically, we are looking on the place's background and HISTORY.

Base on the hymn that we have just heard, do you already have an idea which part of the
Philippines we're going to visit it's past?

Today, we are going to visit the historical past of the "Old Lady in the Northwestern province of
Tarlac," in this report entitled BIYAHENG CAMILING!

HISTORY (SUMMARY)

Classical Era- the area used to be lush in tropical rainforest and was used mainly by the local
Pangasinense people

1406- the area was incorporated as part of the kingdom of Caboloan. (a sovereign pre-colonial
Philippine polity) (ruled by a series of native huangs (kings/queens), namely, Urduja, Kamayin,
Taymey, and Liyu.)

1575- the Chinese pirate Limahong attacked the polity and declared himself as ruler of the
Caboloan realms. (Limahong was a Chinese pirate and warlord who invaded the northern
Philippine Islands)

Early 18th Century- the community was a sitio of Paniqui; before and after, Paniqui was also
part of Bayambang, Pangasinan

1834-1837- Camiling became a District Commission founded by Don Francisco Soriano

1838- Camiling became an independent town

1970- Camiling was a first-class municipality

1990- was reclassified when the Local Government Code went into effect

November 20, 2001- became again a first-class municipality

As of now, Camiling had already produced notable persons who have great contributions in the
society and in our country. They are:

C Carlos P. Romulo - former UN President and Foreign Affairs Secretary.

A Alberto Romulo - former Foreign Secretary, Senator and Executive Secretary.
M César Bengzon - former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and first
Filipino Justice of the International Court of Justice.

I Gregorio C. Brillantes - A multi-awarded fiction-writer.

L Leonor Rivera - José Rizal's second cousin and love interest well known as Maria Clara.
I Jing Abalos - A 60's Philippine actor.
N Onofre Corpuz - former President of the University of the Philippines and Secretary of
Education, Culture and Sports (Now DepEd).

G Gen. Paulino Santos - Founder of Penal Colonies and Chief of Staff of The Philippine Army.
General Santos City was named after him.

CONCLUSION

"Past is past", it means that whatever happened in the past, should remain in the past. If that's so,
would you imagine a world where all of us don't know the events that happened before? the
origins of places and things before we were created and existed? Probably, that's a total black
and white.

Sa ating katatapos na biyahe, nabigyan natin ng kulay ang kasaysayan ng bayang Camiling. Isa
