CHRISTMAS MICE.

SANTA’S SLEIGH

Materials:
• DMC Petra cotton size 3
• Crochet hook 1.5mm
• Crochet hook 1.75mm
• Soft toy filling
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Thin wire/ pipe cleaners
• Stitch marker

Abbreviations:
Ch=chain
St(s)=stitch(es)
Sc=single crochet
Sl st=slip stitch
Inc=increase (2 single crochet in the same st)
3sc=3 single crochet in the same st
Dec=invisible decrease (insert hook in the front loops of the next 2 st(s), yarn over, pull through first 2
loops, yarn over, pull through both loops)
sc3tog=single crochet 3 stitches together (insert hook in the front loops of the next 3 st(s), yarn over,
pull through the first 3 loops, yarn over, pull through both loops)
example: sc, inc, sc (4) = single crochet in the first stitch, 2 single crochet in the next stitch and single
crochet in the last stitch (4 stitches in this round round)

Notes:
• Use a 1.75mm hook for the sleigh (not the runners)
• Use invisible decrease (described in abbreviations) for the rounds and a standard decrease (insert
hook in the 1st st, yarn over, pull through the first stitch, insert hook in the 2nd st, yarn over, pull
through the second st, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops) for the rows
• Most of the rounds are worked in continuous spiral, but there are few rounds that start with a chain
(ch) and end with a slip stitch (sl st)
• Change the colour in the last loop of the st before the colour change
• Stuff firmly as you work or as indicated

Mouse
Head: work in continuous spiral, use a st marker in the beginning of each round, start with magic ring
1. (light pink or red for deer-mouse) 6sc into the magic ring (6)

‘’Reindeer’’ head band: make sl st(s) only in empty ch spaces
Ch11, 4 sl st(s) back, ch4, 8 sl st(s) back, ch13, 3 sl st(s) back, ch6, 9sl st(s) back, ch22 (measure head
band around mouse’s head, ch more if needed), sl st to join with the 1st ch

Harness:
make chains, measure as you work, 1st ch around waist, then ch over shoulders, between reindeer and
ch to the sleigh

Assembly:
• Sew head onto body, pointing the nose a bit upwards
• Sew ears to head (for the ‘’Santa’’ mouse attach the ears to the hat)
• Sew arms to both sides of body right under head
• Sew feet
• Sew tail
• Embroider eyes
• Sew ‘’reindeer’’ head band to head

Little mouse
Head: work in continuous spiral, start with magic ring
1. (in pink) 6sc into the magic ring (6)
Change colour (grey)

Tail:

Fasten off, leaving tail for sewing

Ear (make 2): work in continuous spiral, start with magic ring
1. 6sc into the magic ring (6)
2. 2sc in each st (12)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing

Assembly: sew head and body, attach ears, arms, feet, tail and embroider the eyes

Ladder
Side rail (make 2): work in continuous spiral, start with magic ring
1. 5 sc into the magic ring (5)

Fasten off, using a needle, weave the tail through the front loops of the last 5 st(s), pull tightly and close
the opening weave in loose ends

both parts together around (make 3sc on the turns
in corner st), fasten off, weave in loose ends

Repeat the same with another 2 parts

Don’t fasten off


Take the left side of the sleigh and sc evenly around through both layers to attach to the base (shown in
yellow colour in the picture), sc evenly across the back side, take the right side and sc evenly around
through both layers to attach to the base, sc evenly across the front side.
Fasten off, weave in loose ends

Runners (make 2): work in continuous spiral, start with magic ring
1. 6sc into the magic ring (6)
2.-55. sc in each st (6)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing, insert a wire inside, weave the tail
through the front loops of the last 6 st(s), pull tightly and close the opening,
weave in loose ends

Struts (make 4): work in continuous spiral, start with magic ring,
leave tail out for sewing
1. 5sc into the magic ring (5)
2.-9. sc in each st (5)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing
Sew struts to the runners
Sew runners under the sleigh

2.-21. sc in each st around (6)
(make more/less rounds for bigger/smaller candy cane)
fasten off, using a needle, weave the tail through the front loops of the last 6 st(s), pull tightly and close
the opening, weave in loose end
take red yarn wrap a cane in spiral around, weave in loose ends
