Specific Goal: My audience will believe that being culturally diverse has many benefits as opposed to not
learning about other cultures besides their own.
Audience Assessment: Most of my audience members will probably have an attitude toward my
proposition that is highly favorable.
a. Common ground: I will explain the benefits of being culturally diverse and how it can impact
the audience’s own lives in a positive way.
b. Latitude of acceptance: My proposition lies within the audience’s latitude of acceptance because
being culturally diverse can lead to many positive changes and benefits, which many people want.
Baby Steps: I have gone from making my audience believe that being culturally diverse is the only
correct and appropriate thing to do to talking about the benefits and positive changes that being culturally
diverse brings in hopes of convincing them.

Persuasive Speech: Outline
Being Culturally Diverse
Introduction
I. Hook: Before the pandemic, I used to go to many parties, and the majority of the people at these
parties were Hispanic. I always felt out of place and uncomfortable not knowing the
language, songs, dances, and the types of food they were eating. If any of you guys have been
to these types of parties, I’m sure you know how I feel. I spent most of my time at these
parties just sitting down and talking to other people, until I decided that I didn’t want to do
that anymore. I took the time to learn the dances, songs, and memorize some of the food they
have.
II. Ethos: Today, I consider myself to be culturally diverse because I love learning about other
cultures. I know a lot about my own culture since I’m Bosnian, and I’m currently learning a
lot about Hispanic culture through my best friends.
III. Proposition (or Hint at Proposition): I’m going to speak to you today about the benefits of
being culturally diverse and taking the time to learn about other cultures.
IV. Preview:
1. Being culturally diverse can help us see different viewpoints and opportunities
2. Greater connections can be formed by learning about other cultures
3. Being culturally diverse brings more innovations and creativity
Transition: First, let’s talk about how cultural diversity can be beneficial when it comes to
different viewpoints and opportunities.
Body
I. Being culturally diverse can help us see different viewpoints and opportunities
A. We can learn to see different perspectives of the world without making assumptions
i. “Learning about other cultures helps us understand different perspectives within
the world in which we live, and helps dispel negative stereotypes and personal
biases about different groups” (Belfield, 2012).
ii. By learning how to see different perspectives, we will be able to lessen the
amount of negative stereotypes and biases we have because we’ll be able to
understand the other person’s viewpoint. By only paying attention to our own
perspectives, we’ll continue to create negative stereotypes and assumptions.
A. We are able to get new opportunities that we otherwise would not have been able to get
i. “The diversity opens the door to new opportunities and the blending of ideas
which would otherwise have been homogeneous” (Lewison, 2020).
ii. By being culturally diverse, you get new opportunities to meet new people, try
new foods, learn different dances, try different traditions, travel more, and so
much more. If you don’t become culturally diverse, those opportunities are
limited to only our own cultures, and the likelihood of getting those other
opportunities decreases.
Transition: Now, let’s discuss how learning about other cultures can impact the way we build
connections with other people.
Lastly, let’s go over how cultural diversity can improve creativity, innovations, and problem solving.
Conclusion:
I. Summarize main points/thesis: Gaining insight to new perspectives and opportunities, being
able to build greater connections, and improving your mind can all be achieved by learning about
other cultures and becoming culturally diverse.
II. Bookend: T he next time you get invited to a party where you aren’t completely familiar with the
culture, don’t just sit around and do nothing. Get up, embrace the culture, learn the dances, try the
food, meet new people, and learn more about the culture.
III. End the speech memorably: As Robert Alan once said, “Cultural differences should not
separate us from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings a collective strength that can
benefit all of humanity.”
IV. Challenge the audience to respond: Cultural differences have really split the world to this day,
and there is so much hatred because of it. Now, I want to ask you this. Are you going to be the
part of the world that lets cultural differences separate you from others, or are you going to
become more culturally diverse so you can help unite our world?
