they sometimes work overtime for more money.
 Who is a white-collar and a blue-collar worker? White-collar workers work in an
office (accountants, secretary, teacher), blue collar workers work in a
workshop:for example mechanic, turner welder
 What are the most popular jobs in Hungary? Are they well-paid? Nowadays in Hungary
to be a skilled worker is very popular, because there aren’t enough people for the posts.
 What would be your dream job? I would like to be a………………because……………
 Is there a job that you would never do? What is it? I wouldn’t like to be a cleaner,
because it is a boring job for little money.

Jobs and professions


These pictures show two jobs. Compare and contrast them. Include the following points:
 skills and qualifications needed to do these jobs
 the working conditions and lifestyle they involve
 popular and less fashionable jobs nowadays
 the job you would like to do in the future
Prompts for the Interlocutor:

 How many hours would you work a day?
 Which is more important for you: your job itself or your salary? Why?
 Do you have a job/profession? What are your career plans?
You can choose from a great variety of jobs when you are a child. If you like studying then
you can choose a job which you can do if you have a degree: engineers, but if you don’t like
school it is better to work and choose a trade:carpenter, welder, turner etc.
When you choose a profession it is important to choose a job which you can enjoy. If you
don’t like doing your job it is very bad to do it every day.
Another important aspect is the salary. Especially if you are a man, you have to earn enough
money for your family.

opportunities in a fast food restaurant, photocopying and a factory work and decide on one of
the jobs. Include the following points:

 working environment
 pay / ask about the salary

 ask if experience is necessary

 Why do students have part-time jobs? Because they want some extra money and if they
have some free hours, they can earn it.
 What part-time jobs do you know? babysitting, cleaning, working in the garden, helping
in the office
 What are the advantages / disadvantages of working in the summer? You can earn some
extra money and you get used to working <> you don’t have time for a rest, you get
tired,
 What are the most typical summer or part-time jobs for students? babysitting, picking
fruits, cleaning, working in the fields
 Have you ever had a summer job? What did you do? Did it pay well? I was a babysitter
last summer and I liked it very much, and earned a lot of money.
 Where can you find job advertisements? you can find job advertisements on the internet,
in the newspaper and friends can tell you about it.
 Is it easy to find a good job nowadays in Hungary?If you really want it, you can do it.

Young people have a long holiday form the middle of June to the end of August, so if they want, they
can work for money. If they earn money, they can buy what they dream about or they can go for
holiday.

they can babysit, work in an office, work in the fields, serve customers in a café.
if you work, it has got some disadvantages: you have less time for other activities,and you can be
very tired by the end of the holiday.

But it has got a lot of advantages. You learn to work, you get some work experience, you earn money
and you can buy what you want.
