Types of pavements

Pavement: a multilayer system that distributes the vehicles load over a large area
Traditional pavements are divided into two categories- flexible and rigid
This categorization is on the basis of how the pavement responds to load and climatic
condition.
Flexible pavements usually have bituminous surfacing over the base, subbase and sub
grade.
Rigid pavements have typically Portland cement concrete slab with or without base and
placed over subgrade.
