Trail-6

Report
Trail 6 is the youngest of
Islamabad's hiking trails. It was opened for public hiking in 2013. Being the youngest means less
crowded, very clean and you should expect to come across some water streams. It starts from the
back of the Faisal Mosque in Sector E7. Trails will run you through a valley along a well-defined
route that guides you to the top terminal of the Pir Sohawa road. The trail has a track for
mountain bikes, and a bird watching point.

How to get there:

This trail starts from the world
famous Faisal mosque. We departed
from COMSATS at 8:30am and
reached at 9:00 am we use its far left
parking and then walk to the trail.
There are 20 numbers of students
along us.
Length and Duration:
This trail is about 4.2 km long, ending at Jabbi Gali loop. You should expect to reach the top in
about 80 minutes to 120 minutes. The elevation from Faisal mosque is around 2475 feet - so its
fairly steep. So about 3 to 3.5 hours in total. From Jabbi Gali, one can go down to Village
Talhaar (western route) or move east and hit the Pir Sohawa Road at the point where the Talhar
Road originates from main Pir Sohawa Road. The Monal Restaurant is just 1 km from that point.

This is a very scenic trail, however,

for initial one hour or so one is
walking in a thick jungle which
provides excellent
opportunity to observe birds, animals
and plants but unlike Trail 3 and Trail
5, this trail does not provide a view of
Islamabad city. When one reaches
the top of ridge line, it's a
fascinating forest out there with lot
of pine trees and large size palms. It takes two hours to reach the top of ridge line and from there
on. one starts descending towards either village Talhar (western direction) or towards Road Pir
Sohawa (eastern direction).

About Journey :
There are no known/reported safety
issues. However, it is advisable not
to use it after sunset because of a
large populations of monkeys
around this trail. Being a new trail,
these monkeys are not used to
having many humans around -
specially in dark. And in summers,
these hills are prone to bush fire - if
you see or smell smoke, stay away.
So perfectly safe from sunrise to
sunset. We arrive back at 3:00pm.

The trail has many sit outs and picnic areas, and a bird watching point - all in the first 2 km.
There is a huge map of the trail right in the start. You must have a good look at this map to
avoid unnecessary detours.
The first 1.8 km of this trail are flat, almost no elevation. This section is covered with trees and
there is a water stream at about 1.1 km. In summers this stream can be pretty challenging - and
you will have to criss cross it many times to remain on the marked track. we counted 22 places
that have to be crossed.

The next 2 km are very steep. As with other Islamabad trails, there is a fire lane and a regular
trail here. This separation comes at around 2.1 km, where you turn right for the fire lane and turn
left for the regular trail. We moved towards regular trail and almost 1 hour of continues hike we
reached at jabbi point and then we went left for chasma view point, there we saw a little stream
of water, stay for almost half an hour. At chasma we eat some refreshment and snacks and refill
the water bottles. Then moved head towards straight path which return back at trail 6 mid.

We reached back at 3:00pm at faisal mosque parking and almost 4o’clock we back to Comsats
Islamabad. All students really enjoyed this short trip and this was there memorable trip.
