A novel, by George Orwell, that is set in a world where much of it has fallen victim to
perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance and propaganda. Through
Winston's perspective, the novel's protagonist, the readers are presented with how
a totalitarian society based on constant surveillance would look like. The readers are
also presented with how panopticism. The state of being able to SEE everything
visible in one view. elements can be used by governments to keep citizens
compliant by erasing the sense of privacy and trust for each other
