Question:
From your personal point of view, what do you think about the
relevancy of textile physics in the field of textile engineering?

Answer:
Physics is the most important part of the textile engineering field.
Because, the application of physics is a part and parcel of textile
engineering. It is impossible to perform any process in the textile
sector without physics.

Through textile physics, we can know and diagnose the following

topics of textile engineering.

 About detailed structure of fibre, yarn and fabrics.

 About the geometry of fibre, yarn and fabrics.

 Properties (physical, mechanical, thermal etc.) of fibre, yarn and

fabrics.

 The behaviour of fibre, yarn and fabrics in end condition.

 Identifying faults & their causes & nature in fibre, yarn and
fabrics.

Textile Physics in Textile Engineering also enables textile experts to

understand the following topics:

1. Moisture effects: Study on hygroscopic nature and moisture

absorption nature of textile fibres.

2. Heat absorption, heat of wetting, heat adsorption, effect of the

evolution of heat in textiles.
3. Relation between moisture regain and relative humidity, the
effect of hydrophobic groups, the influence of temperature,
crystalline and amorphous regions on moisture absorption.

4. Optical Properties: refraction index and birefringence,

reflection and lustre, absorption and dichromatic of fibres.

5. Effect of the interaction of moisture and temperature changes

on the rate of conditioning, the technical importance of swelling
of fibres.

6. Electrical properties of fibres: electric resistance and

measurement, factors affecting electrical resistance of fibres.

7. Dielectric properties; static electricity in textile materials,

causes of static electricity and Elimination of static electricity
from textile materials.

The subjects of textile engineering discussed above can be learned

through textile physics. Thus it appears that every subject of textile
engineering is relevant to textile physics.
