General Focus
The goal of this lesson is to provide information and give students an understanding of DECA and how participation can help build his or her professional growth and
development.

Academic & Content Language


CTSO's, CTE, DECA, POA; A full list of terms and definitions will be provided to students to utilize throughout the class.

Objectives
Students will be able to:
Explain the purpose of DECA
Identify why he or she should attend local chapter meetings
Identify membership opportunities offered in DECA
Identify offices and areas of member responsibilities in the Caldwell, ID chapter

Outcomes
Students will demonstrate competency by:
Designing and completing a visual aid that covers information on DECA to help with recruitment
Active participation in group discussions and activity
Complete a "Call To Action" (Reflection Survey)

Prior Knowledge
Students are encouraged to share any prior work and volunteer experience
Students should have basic knowledge on Google Chrome and Microsoft Office: Word, Powerpoint, or Publisher Applications

Anticipated Areas of Misunderstanding


Students may have difficulty staying within a theme on their visual aid. I will include the DECA.org Brand Standards link.

Procedures
Starter:
Advisor will play screencast video for the class, to show and inform the students how to navigate the DECA.org website.

Inquiry Questions:
Describe your dream job
What Microsoft Office Applications do you know how to navigate?
Are you currently working or volunteering? If so, what are some of your responsibilities?
What are some skills that may help you in your future career?

Practice:
Students will be grouped together at random. In their groups, they will ask each other the Inquiry Questions, and document each-others responses.

Explore:
Advisor will introduce the Powerpoint: DECA Program of Activities (POA) to provide the students insight on the program.

Engage:
Students will work with their groups to design a visual aid for recruitment throughout the school.
Students will utilize classroom computers and either Word, Powerpoint, or Publisher for their Visual Aid.
Information from the POA must be included in the Visual Aid.
Visual Aid Requirements
The DECA Logo must be present (branding information link will be linked below)
The Visual Aid must be available to print as a flyer or sharable on social media

Extend:
Students who complete their task early will be asked to start documenting recruiting tactics to help increase chapter membership.

Closure:
Students will be provided a Call To Action or Reflection Topic.

Assessments
Completed Visual Aids must be submitted to the advisor, which will be posted to the classroom google docs page.
