For the time that this course is delivered on line, you will be responsible for textbook reading and any
supplementary research. This is not how I envisioned the course, but it will ensure you get at least a
base level understanding of the topics.

Since email is the most accessible format, and reasonably consistent, all assignments will be submitted
via email. Since we do not have the luxury of lab experiences, I am applying the assignment scores to
the lab points. We will see if this needs to be further modified if the distance learning extends past a
few weeks.

I will assign a chapter or portion of a chapter and email the reading to you to ensure that you have
access as I did with Chapter 6. I have a clean book so that you won’t be distracted by my annotations for
subsequent chapters. Each week I will assign a chapter and you are to do the following: Develop a
personal “study guide” for each chapter.

This means that you are to summarize EACH section of the reading into a few paragraphs that make
sense to YOU! It is not copying sentences from the text into a paragraph, but rather reading the section,
and writing what you believe it means. You can use personal examples to highlight and to solidify your
understanding. It is a summary, so depending on the length of the section, it can range from a few
sentences to a few paragraphs.

I will provide you with the outline and you can write your understanding including examples as
appropriate.

I will also include appropriate readings from “Set Phasers on Stun” for you to include in your study
guide.

I know this will be a lot of work, but I also know that you should be spending approximately 9 hours per
week on this course.

All work will be due at Midnight Sunday.

Each study guide will be worth 10 points
Assignments submitted two days EARLY will be given one bonus point.
Assignments submitted LATE will LOSE one point per day late.

New assignments will be emailed on Monday before 5pm with all appropriate reading materials.

When submitting your homework, you MUST include the course number AND section in the subject line.
