Usability Report

Introduction
A usability report was conducted on Patricia Grant’s Weebly webpage. Patricia Grant
is a student in the course EDID6508 Developing Instructional Media and facilitated by Dr.
Leroy Hill. The webpage is located at http://edid6508grantp.weebly.com/.

Purpose
The purpose of the usability test to evaluate the effectiveness of the website based on
the following categories:
 Content & Layout
 Navigation
 Links (Content)
 Background and Color Choices
 Fonts
 Graphics & Images (accessibility)
 Copyright
 Spelling and Grammar

Method
The Website was assessed using two different methods. The first method used to
assess the website is the Website Evaluation Rubric provided by the course facilitator. The
second method is based on the Functional Accessibility Evaluator 2.1 website.

The rubric below was used to help with evaluating the website and the information
being presented, is based on categories details of the rubric.

Functional Accessibility Evaluator 2.1


To evaluate the website using the Functional Accessibility Evaluator 2.1 website, an
account was created, the link to the website was copied and placed in the evaluation. The
website then checks based on the following categories:

 Style/content
 Images
 Links
 Table
 Forms
 Widget/Scripts
 Audio
 Keyboard
 Timing
 Site navigation

For this assessment, only headings, style/content, images, links, and site navigation is
being assessed The website issues Violations, warning, manual checks or passed based on
what it finds. A summary of the overall results can be found in Appendix 1.

Headings
One warning was issued and 3 passes with a score of 100 which means “all rules have
passed. There were either no manual checks or all manual checks have been resolved”. The
warning is that “page must have h1 element”

style/content
This section had 1 violation which means “Change the foreground and background
colours of the 2 text elements to meet the CCR threshold, 7 manual checks which means that
“manual checks are required to verify accessibility. Markup has been identified that needs to
be reviewed to determine if accessibility requirements have been met” and 1 pass.

Images

This section received 1 violation for one of the images – “images must have alt text”,
3 manual checks and 2 passes.

Links
This section received 2 manual check and 1 pass.

Site navigation
This section received all manual checks.
