The Mathematics syllabus for the Foundation Studies has been written to be relevant to the needs of
Synopsis
students proceeding to different fields of study at the degree level offered at AIMST University. The
syllabus aims to develop the understanding of mathematical concepts and their applications, together
with the skills in mathematical reasoning, calculations and problem solving, to enable students to
proceed to programmes related to science and technology. The syllabus also contributes towards
clear, logical, quantitative, and critical thinking, and also facilitates the implementation of
programmes which require mathematical modeling.
1. It is mandatory for students to attend all scheduled classes in the courses they have
registered. A student who is absent for seven (7) classes without acceptable valid
reason(s) can be barred from sitting for the final examination. Students who are barred
from the final examination will be given zero marks for the final examination.
2. Absenteeism of the students will be monitored by the Academic Director from the 2 nd
week to the end of the semester.
3. Absence from class is acceptable under medical, humanitarian or other valid reasons but
must be reported as soon as possible to the Academic Director. Students can obtain the
leave application form from SGFS office and submit the form 3 days before the leave.
The medical leave certificates should be submitted to SGFS office within 48 hours
(with the signature of lecturers - those classes that the students have missed); all outside
campus medical leave certificates should be certified by AIMST clinic.
4. Subject lecturers records class attendance and reports promptly to the Director about any
students who fails to attend Three (3) classes either consecutively or intermittently.
5. Students who fail to attend any Three (3) classes without acceptable valid reasons will be
issued a first warning letter
6. A second warning letter will be issued to the students after the fifth absence from the
class without acceptable valid reasons.
7. After the seventh absence, the Director will issue a letter to bar the student from sitting
for the final examination.
8. Students who are barred from the examination may appeal before the end of the study
break week. Each case will be dealt individually. Students who are barred will not be
eligible to sit for Supplementary examination.
9. All Foundation students are required to sit for MUET examination during their
Foundation programme.
Re-registration Process
It is compulsory for students to go through re-registration procedures after returning from
each semester break.
Coaching Classes
Attendance is compulsory for students who have been short listed. If absent or attendance is
poor, a reminder letter will be sent to the respective parent.
Co-curriculum Activities
It is compulsory for students to participate in all the activities organized by AIMST
Foundation Students Association (AFSA). By joining these activities, students can enhance
their soft skills such as leadership, communication, team work and etc.
3. Students are strongly reminded NOT TO SHARE the online classroom attendance
login ID and password to others.
4. If students were found to share the online classroom login ID and password to others
without prior approval from the lecturers concerned which results in interruption of the
teaching and learning activities (refer to Student Affairs section, subsection 3.1.5
General prohibition part (c), revised undergraduate handbook 2018, which states that a
student shall not disrupt or in any manner interfere with or cause to disrupt or in any
manner interfere with, any teaching, study, research, administrative work, or any activity
carried out by or under the direction of or with the permission of the University’ can be
subjected to disciplinary action which includes suspension and termination from the
programme based on the clause stated under 6.0 STUDENT DISCIPLINARY
REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES of the undergraduate handbook.
5. The undergraduate handbook also clearly mentioned about the restriction on the use of
text of lecture under Student Affairs Section, clause 3.1.5, which states that ‘ A student
shall not use the text of any lecture or materials imparted to him in the University except
for the purpose of pursuing his course of study, in particular he/she will not reproduce in
any manner the whole or any part of such text for the purpose of publication, distribution,
or circulation whether for payment or otherwise’. The lecture materials include the
recorded audio & video file, lecture notes, etc. If any student were found to violate clause
3.1.5, he/she may be subjected to disciplinary action which includes suspension and
termination from the programme.
6. The students are reminded to adhere to the university’s rules and regulations at all times.

a) Remember to download and install the Zoom launcher (PC/Mac) or the app
(iOS/Android) in advance, as it can take several minutes to complete.
b) Review Zoom instructions here or via the external Zoom link found in your
Moodle or Canvas course. More information can also be found at
Zoom's Getting Started page.
b) Open Zoom via the downloaded program, app, or through the Zoom module
link in Moodle or Canvas.
c) Test your headphones, microphone, and camera to make sure the class can hear
and see you (and vice versa).
d) To test your microphone, click "Test Computer Mic & Speakers" in the pop-up
window that appears when first opening a test meeting or beginning your
scheduled meeting.
e) To test your camera, just look at the Zoom window to see that you are clearly
visible, non-pixelated, and can move and speak without noticeable delays.
f) You may need to give Zoom permission to access your camera and microphone
beforehand. Typically, the request for permission will appear in a pop-up
window the first time you open a Zoom Meeting and will carry over to future
meetings. If you declined permissions in the past, you will need to go into your
PC or Mac's settings to allow Zoom to access your camera and microphone.
g) Close any windows or programs open on your device that is unrelated to your
meeting. This focuses your device's power to provide the best Zoom meeting
experience possible and prevents potential embarrassing moments if you
happen to share your screen.
b) Click the Chat bubble to ask questions via text, share links to websites, and
keep up with the class's back-channel discussion. You can chat to everyone in
the meeting, just the professor, or a specific person.
c) Find out who else is in the meeting by clicking Participants. This is also
where you can "raise your hand" to ask a question, answer a question, or start
an intense philosophical debate.
d) Be prepared to share your screen with the class. They can see the tabs you
have open.
Video chatting in a professional setting is a new experience for many students. Here
are some tips to help you look and feel like the most impressive Zoomer in the room.
a) Getting clear video is a lot like taking a good selfie, it's all about contrast. Light
your face more brightly than the background to make it easier to see you.
g) If you can't use video, upload a nice profile image of your face to your Zoom
Account. Give your classmates something to look at while you speak.
