Career anchors

The carrier anchors which are the most important to me as per the questionnaire
which I have filled is very true for me in my personal life also. I am having the
same kind of attitude and thoughts which helps me in taking most crucial
decisions. I always stick to these points and try not to get diverted to other things
depending on the situations.
I can give a clear justification to all the career anchors which I have chosen at
most priority level and why few things are not really very important to me and
how I actually implement it in my real life.

• Security and stability: Security and stability is something which we all

want in our life whether it is in terms of daily 9 to 5 jobs, getting into a
business and many more things. We all have seen these kind of thing in
our daily life where before taking any decision we look after security and
stability and keep it at most priority, so I do. I am in my final year of my
graduation it is the point where we have to take the most important
decision of our life that which career to choose and which field to opt for.
Many of my friends have tried their luck in the startups and few of them
have really succeeded in it. If I want then I can also go for it. In fact one
of my friend gave me a proposal also to have own startup for providing
the refurbished phones to the customers which would cost half the
amount of money than the original price and obviously no one want to
spend money a lot on brand new phones. I agreed that time and made a
pitch also and he contacted to one of the investor of Delhi, he was
convinced to invest money also but I was in dilemma that whether I
should do it or not because it is going to cost our a lot of time and money
and what if we could not succeed and fail in it. I was not ready to take
this risk because I want a career where I am having a stability and
security, does not matter whether I am earning less or more. The only
thing which matters to me is that whether after 3 to 4 years I will be
having any source of income or a stable life. The same thing is with me
while choosing companies to start my carrier with. I was having offer
from Byjus for BDA role and package is also good enough but still I was
looking for the company where I will be having job security along with
growth and Byjus is not that company which could provide me these
 things. So, these all are the things where I have prioritized the job
security and stability rather than anything else.

• Service dedication to a cause: As per me, just working and earning

money is not enough. Anyone can earn money, someone does it by doing
business someone by sitting all day long in the office. But do we ever
think that what changes we have brought in others life. No, we don’t do
it. But my aim is not just to earn money but to bring change in the society
either through our daily job or by doing something extra. Although I have
not done anything for the betterment of society or making other’s life
easy by working on any technologies but I have always tried my best
that along with my regular life I could contribute even a little for others.
It is the reason I have worked with NSS for few months by raising
awareness among those peoples who are in need, helping them in the best
way I could. After quitting NSS due to this pandemic I was not able to do
anything. After which I decided to dedicate 1 hour daily to the students in
enhancing their communication skills and making them aware about the
carrier paths which can give them an idea in choosing the right path. I
taught around 7 to 8 students as I could not had a huge gathering, I
specially worked on their soft skills and aptitude. Because I always want
to give knowledge as much I have gained in my life. And I am sure
enough that in the upcoming future I will keep contributing to the welfare
of society.

• Autonomy/Independence: Being independent and working in my own

way is very important to me. And not only me, everyone wants to work
in their own style without any restrictions. If I give an example then in
almost all the companies they are having time schedule that you have to
come and leave office at particular time only. In these cases the best
never comes out of a person. But in companies like google and others,
they have no restrictions over their employees, they are allowed to wear
whatever they want, have rest rooms and no time schedule. In this case
the company always gets the best output. I also want to work in this kind
of environment only. I need a place where I won’t be having any pressure
and restriction from the officials and any kind of interference in my
work. I always tried to implement it in my life because I know my wills
and capabilities. There was an incident, I joined an organization in LPU
and during the first week I was told to bring 100 registrations. I hardly
 managed to give 15 registrations and they called our group and scolded
and said that if you can’t do this thing we can’t have you in our
organization. I did not day anything to him at that time and any how we
did around 60 registration but after it I instantly quit that organization as I
don’t think that it is the way someone should address their new
coordinators. After that I never did any job where I had to compromise
with my way of doing the tasks.

• Pure challenge: Pure challenging jobs are something which most of the
brightest mind wants in their career to prove their success and potential
and until and unless they don’t get these kind of challenges they don’t get
satisfied. But this is not the case with me. I never pay attention to the
complexity of the task but the thing which I look for is the quality. I
agree that there is a very thin line between challenging task and the
opportunities. If anyone proves him or her by solving critical problem
then he can have several opportunities in future. But doing complex thing
is not my cup of tea. I have faced many situations where I was allotted
the complex things to implement and I really did very bad because in
pressure my ability to these things gets almost negligible. The only thing
which runs in my mind at that point is that I have to do it and I forget that
how to do it. Once I was allotted to opt for a project and in excitement I
chose to work on chat bot but there was few things which was never done
before and I had to implement it on my own. I started but completely lost
in between due to the deadlines and ruined it completely. And it is not the
only situation I faced but gone through many such situations and due to
those experience I decided not to go for something which I can never do.
Rather I always want to work in my comfort zone, where I can give my
best and contribute even a little in growth.

• Entrepreneurial creativity: As I have mentioned in the stability and

security section and also have written about my startup journey, am not
that confident in building my own empire. Working with some company
with security and stability is something different from starting your
company. How much I feel is that to have own startup along with the
knowledge one should have business mind and have operational and
marketing strategies and prepared enough to bear the losses. Am being a
fresher neither have industry exposure so that I could know that what
kind of services customer needs nor am mentally prepared to bear the
losses. I always wanted a job which can fulfil my needs and wants. To
 get into business and providing my own services to the clients will take
time. Before that I want to gain knowledge to implement it in near future.

• Lifestyle: It is really important to me to have a well-balanced lifestyle so

that I could focus on both my personal and professional life. There is a
reason behind it, being the only child of my parents they are my priority
and I don’t want to compromise with it. I don’t want a career that would
cost my personal life where I have to look after my parents and also serve
my society. I need this kind of environment where am allowed to work
from home also and don’t want to engage myself all day long and make
my job my limitations. There are a lot of other thing which I have
planned for my future in terms of social works and for that I will need a
well-balanced work culture.

• Managerial competence: It is really my kind of thing. From the very

starting I wanted to work where I can be the front face of my
organization and can lead a team and suggest them the best ways of
doing things. It was the reason I joined Allsoft Solutions as a head
coordinator where my task was to manage my team and instruct them the
ways of doing tasks. And I can say it for sure that it is my strong point, in
my job duration my team made a business of 2 lakhs within 1 month and
for me it is really a very big achievement being a naïve. And during my
placements also I try my best to get into companies in a job role like
project management, operational executive and these kind of similar
roles. So, in short if I say then in my near future I want to work on
similar kind of job role.

• Technical functions: I am really so fond of technical things. Although

being a computer science student I am much fascinated towards
management roles. It is not like that I can’t work upon the latest
technologies and bring the best results but we all know that every person
have something special which he or she can do the best and technical
stuffs is not my speciality and I don’t want to get into that field which is
not my strength. I have seen myself getting tensed, frustrated and failing
many times when I was assigned to work upon the technical things, I
always wanted to run from it and it is the reason I don’t like it much.
Career which I have chosen for me

Talking about the carrier which I have chosen then am really much certain about
what I have to do. I have to work as a solution engineer who deals with the
clients being the front face of the company. Their task is to find out the needs of
the customers and find out best ways to provide the service. After finding the
solutions the lead a team of engineers who will work on the technical parts like
doing hardcore programming, developing software and more. This is the kind of
job role where I can work as a manager though it is not an exact managerial
role but still it is having the same kind of responsibilities, something which I
really want to work as. In fact I have chosen the company too in which I will be
serving. I am this much sure because of an incident which took place 2 months
back.

Few months before I had no idea what I have to do in my life but everything
changed when a company named Whatfix visited our campus for our batch. I
researched about the company a lot before appearing in the drive and I really
loved its products as I have already used it before so I got the idea that what kind
of service that company provides. I was among those 600 students who appeared
in the test and after facing 5 tests and interview rounds I made it to the HR but
unfortunately I could not clear the HR. But during that whole 1 week I learned a
lot, the kind of environment that company is having is something which I want.
Their employees are so polite and cooperative that it would never feel like any
pressure kind of thing. In fact during the interviews I got a lot of help and
support from their side. From rescheduling my interviews to making me
understand about my strength and weakness was just too good. I never saw such
kind of company.

Its working hour is as per the USA time zone as its most of the clients are in
North America. It will really balance my personal and professional life which is
very important to me. So in the terms of lifestyle also it is exactly what I wanted.

The most important factor security and stability, it is also present in this
company. After joining as a solution engineer they give promotions to the
employees till the role of solution director. I just need to work with focus for 3 to
4 years and I can make the most secure and sophisticated job for me. As I have
mentioned earlier that I don’t have any plans for having my own business then
obviously with no doubt I can work in this company till the time I could.
The fact is that whatfix provides the freedom to showcase your skills, make
improvements in existing products and propose ideas to the top managerial
persons if you want. The thing which they want from an employee is the output.
They don’t care about the way of doing the tasks but the result which they get.
Each and every employee have the authority to keep their issues in front of the
company and they make sure that it gets resolved. Not only this much, their
employees even do the charity works like its HR Mr. Harshil is running an NGO
from past 3 years through which his team is providing foods to the poor people
of Bengaluru. From this thing, am sure enough that I will also get the enough
time to the works for social cause and will be able to contribute in the welfare of
people. I don’t have more expectations from a job which this company is
providing. I have started preparing on my weak part as I got to know these
things during interviews. It will take 1 more year to get into this company but for
sure I will make it one day.

How career anchors will impact career decisions and improve

career choices.

We all have different preferences regarding our career choices. There will be
more or less weight on what aspects of our career we prioritize. What motivates
some individuals will be a de-motivator for others. If anyone want to have the
perfect job where he or she can sustain then they should make sure that they are
well aligned as per the career anchors.

Career anchors are seen as an essential component of success and motivation at

work. Career anchors typically change over the course of our careers. As we gain
additional skills, experience, and knowledge and as we become more competent
our job preferences change. So, it is very important to evaluate ourself that
which kind of job we want to do.

Now lets take an example, through this assignment by doing questionnaire I got
clarity about the things which I want in my life like balanced lifestyle, stable job
any much more and those thing and also for which am not yet ready like
entrepreneurial creativity and technical works. I got to know that in which field
am comfortable, now it will surely help me in near future, in fact it from
tomorrow only I will stick to these things and accordingly I will choose the
companies and register in it. At the end, I am the person who is going to be
beneficiated from it then why not do it.
As per now, am having interest in managerial role, it might happen that after 2
years I get interest in having my own business. So, sometimes we can’t figure it
out that what are the things which we want. In that case to get the best solution is
to question yourself and find out what we really want from our life. So, these are
the things where these career anchors could play the best role in our success as a
person succeeds only when he gets interest in the work which he does.
