The blue boy (Il ragazzo in azzurro) di Thomas
Gainsborough

Thomas Gainsborough (14 May 1727-2 August 1788)

was an English portrait and landscape painter,
draughtsman and printmaker he is considered one
of the most important British artist of the second
half of the 18th century.
The first thing that i notice watching this painting, is
the blue color of the clothe that the boy wear. i think
that maybe he could be ten years old, because he
looks very young. He’s clothe also tell me about his
social class that can be middle-high. The expression
of his face is confident also for the position of his
body. The message that Gainsborough want to
transmit in his portrait is the actuality intends to
contrast a museum painting. He normally work on
fresh paint he’s favorite colors were blues, celestials
and greens, all cold colors that tend to contrast the
warm ones.
