Policy name. Safety

Rationale for policy: It is the policy of Creative Hands Early Childhood Institution to create Safe

environment indoors and outdoors for all children under it’s care and supervision away from home.

The policy:

• Teachers should ensure all medicine, cleaning agents and toxic substance should be labelled and

stored in a locked cupboard and kept out of reach of children.

• The Principal should ensure a secure entry system is in place to ensure that only persons with a

legitimate reason for being on the premises have access and teachers should follow up with this.

• Teachers should ensure that visitors, other than parents collecting their children must pre-arrange

their visits and carry identification.

• All visitors must make themselves known to a member of staff upon entry, stating their name

and reason for visiting.

• Teachers must ensure that visitors and parents sign themselves in and out of the building in the

log book upon picking or dropping off a child/children.

• Teachers must label all children medication and only give medication belonging to the child.

• Teachers should ensure that all electrical outlets are covered and out of reach of children.

• Teachers should ensure that the toys children interact with are age appropriate and free of any

harmful substances, such as Sharpe points or paints.

• Teachers should ensure that children are made aware of all exits in the event of an emergency.

• Teachers should ensure that all children are protected from harm in all activities and within the

facilities.

Consequences for infraction:

• If a visitor cannot produce an identification upon collection of a child will not be permitted to do

so.

• If a member of staff relieves a child to a visitor without identification or permission will be given

a warning in writing as first offence. If the offence should happen again with the same staff, a

written dismissal will be issued.

Policy for children, staff, parents and visitors

____At Creative Hands Early Childhood Institution we ensure that there is security of our

children, staff, parents and visitors. Our facilities and equipment are safe for children to play and explore

their environment.

All harmful substance are kept out of reach our children.

We embark on safety as one of our number one priority in our institution as to have for each child an

emergency contact name, address and telephone number in the event of an accident.

At no given time should a child be found at the exit or at any out of bound point without the

accompaniment of a caregiver.
