Introduction
This document serves as a test plan for a PoC in which an LTE cellular equipment is
integrated with the SkyEdge-IIc platform.
The PoC is divided into 4 milestones.
• The first milestone is to create a baseline which verifies the tests that pass
successfully without the SkyEdge-IIc platform
• The second milestone is to verify all tests that were successful in milestone 1 are
successful in milestone 2 which introduces satellite delay, meaning the cellular
equipment is working ok with the satellite delay even when it is not connected to the
SkyEdge-IIc platform
• The third milestone is to verify tests will pass when introducing the SkyEdge-IIc
platform.
• The forth milestone should pass successfully, because the cellular equipment
itself was tested (milestone 1) with Satellite Delay (milestone 2) and with
SkyEdge-IIc platform (milestone 3)
Note
The tests procedures are written in a general manner, and not necessarily as a detailed step-
by-step procedures. Hence, these tests must be performed by knowledgeable and experienced
technical personnel.

Pre-Requisites
It is assumed that the cellular equipment (eNB) has an accurate
clock from a local GPS
It is assumed that the eNB to EPC network is a layer 3 network
(different IP networks)
The EPC used for the PoC should support satellite eNBs
The eNB used for the PoC should not be a live eNB with real
end-users traffic. The eNB should be used purely for the PoC
tests and should only enable the PoC devices (UEs,
smartphones, etc...) be connected to it
The customer is responsible to supply an LTE network,
connected to the Internet or to local test servers
The EPC used for the PoC should support satellite delay on the
S1 interface
Specific tests require the customer to supply equipment
(Smartphones, SIM cards, PCs, applications, switches, servers,
ports, etc.) in order for these tests to be carried out. Failure to
supply this equipment will prevent these tests from being
performed
For the period of the PoC, the customer should be able to have a
cellular engineer who is familiar with the cellular equipment used
for the PoC. The engineer must be capable of “tuning” the eNodeB
configuration, especially for satellite environment. It should be
noted that if remote-controlled configuration of the eNodeB is not
possible, the engineer may be required to travel to remote eNodeB
sites in order to perform such configuration If customer specific
applications are tested, they must be pre- tested to verify that they
can be run over a satellite link If the PoC is carried out at the
agreed upon time and the above conditions are not met by the
customer, the tests that are not possible to be run will be skipped,
the remainder of the PoC test plan will be carried out as planned
and the PoC test plan will be signed and approved by the customer
without the tests having been carried out.

PoC Milestones
The PoC is having 4 milestones. Each milestone starts only once the previous milestone is
finished successfully.
Milestone 1 - B2B Configuration

Purpose
Make sure the cellular equipment passes successfully all defined tests prior to doing the
tests over the SkyEdge-IIc platform.
Configuration
The eNB should be connected directly to the EPC as such: eNB < > EPC
Note
Any test that fails and cannot be solved, should be skipped in milestones 2 to 4.
Milestone 2 - B2B Configuration with Delay

Purpose
Make sure the cellular equipment passes successfully all defined tests with Satellite typical
delay prior to doing the tests over the SkyEdge-IIc platform.
If a test fails, the delay will be decreased until the test is successful. Once a certain delay is
reached with which the test is successful, a cellular engineer who is knowledgeable in the
cellular equipment configuration is required in order to find the right cellular equipment
configuration that will make the failed test/s successful with satellite delay
Configuration
The eNB should be connected a deilat simulator which is connected to the EPC as such: eNB
<--------------> Delay Simulator <----> EPC
Milestone 3 - Low-Fly Configuration

Purpose
Make sure the cellular equipment passes successfully all defined tests while integrated with
the SkyEdge-IIc platform working in Low-Fly mode.
Configuration
The eNB should be connected to the EPC through the SkyEdge-IIc platform as such: eNB
<----> VSAT <----> Low-Fly <----> Hub <----> EPC

Milestone 4 - Hi-Fly Configuration

Purpose
Make sure the cellular equipment passes successfully all defined tests while integrated with
the SkyEdge-IIc platform working with a real satellite.
Configuration
The eNB should be connected to the EPC through the SkyEdge-IIc platform as such: eNB
<----> SkyEdge-IIc VSAT <----> Satellite <----> SkyEdge-IIc Hub <----> EPC
A typical hi-fly configuration is shown below.

Test Philosophy
The philosophy is to test critical functions in an operational environment. The PoC
should to be carried out by a knowledgeable tester with specific details explained to a
customer witness as necessary. It is suggested that the Gilat test director maintain the
“official” copy of the test plan document and that all parties involved initial any
changes made.
■ For all procedures in this test plan, both the Gilat and El
customer representatives should initial each test result
in the form for each test procedure.
■ The tests will start after the final configuration of the
SkyEdge-IIc network.
