Speed Reading

Reading well is a skill in itself that takes time to develop. But maybe you’ve got a fuller
schedule than most, and need to learn how to read as quickly as you can. Below are a few
helpful resources to give you tips and tricks on how to read faster!

Lifehack provides a great guide on how to speed read, including a video on how to practice the
strategies they mention in the guide!

WikiHow is always a fun site to go through, and as silly as some of their

guides can be, their speed reading guide comes with illustrated steps on
how you can practice to become a more effective reader.

Lastly, Book Riot has a great guide, including other resources such as a
reading program, that shows you some tricks on how to read as fast as
you can but without losing comprehension of the content you read.

A few key things from my own experience in speed reading are:

● If you’re reading from a physical book, try using your finger to trace
the words; if you’re reading online, try clicking around with your finger
or your mouse
● If you’re reading a popular novel, play or other kind of text, check out
websites such as Sparknotes and Shmoop, and use their notes to
help you notice the important parts of what you’re reading. (Or if you
prefer watching videos, you can look through YouTube for
summaries!)
● You can practice speed reading by using Spreeder, where you copy
and paste text and it focuses on each word for you, really spacing out
what your mind can handle
● Practice makes perfect! It may be challenging to speed read at this point, but you will get
the hang of it
