Schedule:
WED / 14:00 – 17:00 / OZ 212

Submitted to:

Engr. Jord Vhae D. Sada

Instructor
I. Objectives

1. To be familiar with computer networking tools specifically CISCO Packet Tracer.

2. To make a working crossover cable.
3. To make a working straight-through cable.

II. Observation

Cisco Packet Tracer is a network simulation tool that allows you to design your own
network with easy access without hardware requirements. It is also a practice for network
designing without having a physical router and network. It can also run as a hybrid network.
Packet Tracer is one of the better initiatives by Cisco of learning for students from skills and
building career.

Figure 1 - Hub

A hub is a connection point for all devices in a LAN. It is simply a repeater with multiple
ports because it repeats the signal coming from one port out of all the ports.

Figure 2 – Simulation Panel

Simulation panel shows the features of the devices you used in making a topology. It also
have the button for resetting what you did on the topology.

Figure 3 - Routers

Routers are the main parts of the topology making. It is a 3 layer device that is used to
forward packets from one networks to another.

Figure 4 – Menu toolbar

This are the menus that are included on the cisco packet tracer. One of the example is the
Tools where it has a drawing palette that can choose an outline color to fill the drawing.

Figure 5 – Applying Grid

Applying grid on your work space helps your topology to see evenly and make your work
clean.

Figure 6 – Delete and search object

One of the features of Cisco Packet Tracer that allows you to search an object on an easy
access and also can delete if wrong object appears.

Figure 7 – Activity Wizard

Also a features of the packet tracer that writes instructions, build a correct answer
network, specify grading and an initial network and save. It can also create tasks, labs, games
and complex assessments.

Figure 8 – IP Configuration
Another one is the IP configuration that sets your IP address into your Router.

Figure 9 – Desktop Configuration

Desktop configuration allows you to choose what to configure in the chosen Device.

Figure 10 – Cisco Packet Tracer Workspace

Last is the CPT Workspace which you can make the topology you want. You can also see
the physical and logical topology here in the interface.

Figure 11 - Category 6 with RJ45

For the figure, it is a category 6 cable with RJ45 installed. We made to cables: one is for
the straight cable and another is for cross-over cable. Each cable consist of 5 meters for this
experiment and both cables are working.

III. Cost Analysis

Quantity Total Amount

Item Unit Remarks Unit Cost
Needed Actual Target Actual
P P
Cat 6 Cable 5 8 meter P 31.25
6.25 50
RJ-45 0 0 pack Discounted 0 0 0
RJ-45 4 10 piece 2 8 20
P P
Total Cost
39.25 70
Table 1 – Target Budget vs. Actual Cost

For the target budget and actual cost of making the cable wiring is that the actual is much
higher compare to the target budget that we need. We bought an extra meters of Category 6 cable
because of human errors of cutting the cable.
