Question 1.lssd

Answer:
a)

 Net work done on the book by Fa:

It is known that, Wa=Fa * d * cos(θ ) , let’s plug the number into the formula:

Wa=Fa * d * cos(θ) = 20 * 0.5 * cos(30) = 8.66 J

 Gravitational force on the book:

Wg=Fg * d * cos(θ) = m * g * d * cos(θ) = 3 * 9.81 * 0.5 * cos (120) = - 7.35J

 Normal force on the book:

WN = FN * d * cos(90) = 0

b) Let’s find the speed at the end of the displacement:

WNET = WF + WG = 8.66 + ( -7.35) = 1.31 J
W= 1/2mv²
V= 0.934 m/s

Question 2
a) The work done by the gravitational force travel from P to Q:
WPQ = mg(h-R)
WPQ = mg(5R-R) = 4mgR
WPQ = 4 * 0.032 kg * 9.8 m/s2 * 0.12 m = 0.1505 J

b) The work done by the gravitational force travel from P to Q:

Wtop = mg(5R-2R)=3mgR = 3 *0.032*9.8*0.12 = 0.113 J

c) The gravitational potential energy of the block Earth system at point P:

Up = 5mgR = 5 * 0.032 * 9.8 * 0.12 = 0.18816 J
d) Work done at Q:
UQ = mgR = 0.032 * 9.8 * 0.12 = 0.0376 J
e) Work done at the top of the loop:
Utop = 2mgR = 2 *0.032 * 9.8 * 0.12 = 0.07526 J
f) The gravitational potential energy and work does not influenc initial speed, so answer is the
same.

Question 4.
Constant of spring (k) = 320 N/m
The co-efficient of kinetic friction (Uk) = 0.25
Compressed length of spring (x) = 7.5 cm = d
The mass of the block (m) = 2.5 kg

a) We need to calculate the work done by the spring force:

Wx = -1/2* k * x2 = -1/2 * 320 * (0.075)2 = -0.9 J

b) We need to find the increase in thermal energy:

E= Uk * m * g * d =0.25 * 2.5 * 9.8 * (0.075) = 0.46 J

c) We need to find the speed before the block reaches to the spring:
From the law of conversation of energy
-0.46 = 1/2* m * vf2 –1/2 * vi2 + (0.9)
Vi2 = 1.088
Vi = 1.04 m/s
