The problem of crime and punishment in the contemporary system of justice.

In our society's criminal justice system, justice equals punishment. Our society defines justice in this manner: the
victims of crimes often seek the most severe possible punishment for their offenders. Society tells them this will
bring justice, but it often leaves them feeling empty and unsatisfied after getting what they sought. Punishment
cannot restore their losses, answer their questions, relieve their fears and help them make sense of their tragedy or
heal their wounds.

Firstly, the problem is that the government considers punishment as a deterrent to crime. The punitive approach to
justice has resulted in the United States becoming the largest jailer in the industrialized world, with a violent crime
rate that is also second to no other industrialized nation.

Secondly, punishment for the purpose of rehabilitation. Prisons rehabilitate relatively few offenders. The vast
majority pass through the "revolving doors" repeatedly. Offenders are "warehoused" in institutions where the culture
within rewards violence, meanness, deceit, manipulation and denial. Most offenders return to society as individuals
who are then even more antisocial than before they were imprisonment.

So punishment does not work as deterrence or as rehabilitation and it often exacerbates the problems we are trying
to correct.

For a society to function well, and for it to prevent crime, it must be good in tackling crime, and preventing it from
getting out of hand. To effectively prevent crime, certain principles must be followed. First of all, laws should be
clear and simple. Secondly, the entire nation should be united in defence. Thirdly, laws should not be against classes
of men, but of men. In addition, there must be certainty of outcome of crime, reward for virtue and perfect
education. If these principles are followed there would be less of a need to follow the other principles of trial and
punishments.

I think, It is better to prevent crimes than to punish people. This is the fundamental principle of good legislation,
which is the art of conducting men to the maximum of happiness, and to the minimum of suffering.
Is reading a necessary habit?

The habit of reading can be enjoyable, rewarding, and fun at the same time. The benefits of reading books
are so obvious that you simply cannot ignore it and not take advantage of this opportunity. Books should be treated
like a hidden treasure, because they allow you to get to know great people and their thoughts.

There are many advantages to the habit of reading books. First, books help expand vocabulary and teach
you how to build sentences correctly. It is much easier for a reading person to formulate their thoughts, they
imperceptibly form the basic skills of an orator. Secondly, reading promotes the development of thinking, which
allows you to easily accept new information, penetrate into the essence of things around, and apply the knowledge
gained in practice. It also promotes the development of imagination, which is necessary for quality work, especially
if you have a creative profession.

I believe that the habit of reading should be instilled in children from a young age, as reading helps expand
wisdom and knowledge. To force interest in reading, parents should read to them. Kids will make positive
associations with reading and spending time with family. In addition, parents should keep books in the house as kids
who grow up in homes with lots of books read more. Moreover, parents who read more have kids who read more.

In conclusion, I want to say that reading is the best habit, because it develops us comprehensively and
makes us interesting people to communicate. Scientists have also proven that preservation of youth is directly
dependent on brain activity. This means that the more you read, the longer you will stay young. Therefore, you
should try to read more.
