Abstract

This paper is on the topic “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics Will Replace Human within This
Century”. Here according to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary 8th edition Robot is (1) A
machine that can perform a complicated series of tasks automatically. (2) A machine that is to look
like a human and that can do some things that a   human can do. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area
of study concerned with making computers copy intelligent human behavior. Replace: (1) Something
/somebody to be used instead of something or somebody else; to do something instead of
something/somebody else. (2) To remove something/somebody and another person or thing in their
place. (3) To change something that is old, damaged, etc. for a similar thing that is newer or better.
After some recent surveys and reports, it is now a matter of concern for people about their existence.
The aim of this term paper is comparing the studies, expert opinions and the thoughts of the youths
and know the real facts of artificial intelligence and robotics.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics

Will Replace Human within This Century
1

Introduction

The term paper on “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics Will Replace Human within This
Century” has been assigned as a part of ENG102 course (Composition and Communication Skills) to
our team. As 4th industrial revolution is going to be on cyber physical system which is marked by
emerging technology breakthroughs in a number of fields, including robotics, artificial
intelligence, nanotechnology, quantum computing, biotechnology, the Internet of Things,
the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT), fifth-generation wireless technologies (5G), additive
manufacturing/3D printing and fully autonomous vehicles it is a matter of concern for the people that
there will be no need of human in future. For making the issue clearer, we have chosen the topic. We
have four members in our team. Firstly, we made the full plane and distribute the work. Md Mania
Ahmed Joy find out the issues that is need to find out. He also conducted the survey through online
google form and the other team members helped him doing it. He then meets two experts regarding
this issue. Syed Emon define the topic through online research and marked the question that should
be needed to answer first and find out the specific jobs that will be taken over by the robotics and AI.
Anindya Roy and Hasibul Islam Akash find out the answers of the marked questions and analyze
the study as well as online portals and made report on that. After completing all the individual work,
all the reports were assembled and the complete term paper were made. Although the assumption
about technology is unpredictable but here the issues have been discussed are based on current
scenario of artificial intelligence and robotics. The whole prediction may be different if we may enter
the age of quantum computers. There are a lot more to study in this field because technology is
changing every day.

Discussion on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

The term intelligence refers to the ability  to acquire and apply different  skills and knowledge to
solve a  given problem. In addition, intelligence  is also concerned with the use of general
mental capability to solve, reason, and learning various situations. Today, we are living in  a world
where machines are everywhere. Our dependence on machine is far more than ever. Now-a-days,
every machine we use have some Artificial Intelligence implemented in it such as air conditioners,
cameras, video games, medical equipment, were traffic lights, refrigerators, etc. By the way, we call
them smart devices. Artificial Intelligence, a branch of Computer Science, is being made to make
computer systems acts or do things like human beings do. That is something allow computer systems
to understand conversations or make decisions. Even, computers have more computational power than
a human brain and do task trillion times faster without any mistake. Intelligence involves both Human
and Artificial Intelligence. In this case, critical human intelligence is concerned with solving
problems, reasoning and learning. Furthermore, humans have simple complex behaviors which they
can easily learn in their entire life.

In the field of robotics, Artificial intelligence (AI) have a great role. Artificial Intelligence in robotics
covers topics like natural language processing, design, human factors, and computing theory.  A
subfield of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing provides computers with the
understanding they require to handle information being encoded by humans. Computer Vision helps
computer to understand and data mining from images and scenes.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is empowering more machine intelligence embedded in human systems
than ever before. We are on the tech-based societal transformation that will be at least as big as that of
the Industrial Revolution. This is not just machine-driven automation for manual labor. We are talking
about man-made creations that can “think” at a human level – or even beyond. Robots could take over
52 percent of the current workload in less than a decade, forcing humans to rethink how they
approach jobs. According to the Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF), the number of robots
taking over jobs from people will double from the current 29 percent. But the shift in workplace
dynamics could be offset by robots creating even more jobs than they take over. We suspect that its
impact will be progressive, profound on all human endeavors, all human activity and professional
tasks. Advances in deep learning and areas of AI will coincide with the rise of smarter robots. A set of
AI machines by the company Alibaba recently became the first to beat a human score at a reading
comprehension test. We did not expect to see AI beat human experts. It is hard to imagine an industry
that will not be impacted by AI in the 2020s. It is not just the domain of repetitive tasks that is
impacted, it is any number of white-collar jobs as well including lawyers, doctors, writers, journalists
and so forth. While we train robots like Waymo’s self-driving cars with data and real-world
simulations, a time will come when AI will be training us in education and how to improve our global
economy. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report, some jobs will be wiped
out, others will be in high demand, but around 5 million jobs will be lost. As humans we are already
taught that we will change our career several times in our lifetime. AI will optimize many of our
systems, but also create new jobs. We do not know the rate at which it will do this. By predicting, in
2020 AI will create 2.3 million new jobs while eliminating 1.8 million traditional jobs. Dates will no
longer be the purvey of human beings, medical diagnosis and many other things. AI completely
replaces the need for human beings. We have to think differently about how the future accelerates in
3

an age of Artificial Intelligence. To say many human beings will be “left behind” is truly an
understatement. Robots have transformed industrial manufacturing, and now they are being rolled out
for food production and restaurant kitchens. We know the future of work will be altered, but it is
difficult for us to predict what we are up against, because what AI becomes is mysterious and how it
scales is likely beyond our control. If China, Russia and the U.S. are in a race for AI supremacy, the
kind of manifestations of AI will be so significant, they could alter the entire future of human
civilization. Our poverty or the social privilege we are born into, may have a more obscure
relationship to a global system where AI monitors every aspect of our lives. Eventually AI will itself
be the CEOs, inventors, master engineers and creator of more efficient robots. That is when we will
know that AI has indeed replaced human beings. AI is a new paradigm of humanity, not a tool of
humans. In many respects, AI completely replaces the need for human beings. The advantage of these
robots is their ability to work nonstop without getting tired. That is something that is not possibly in
any line of work, but especially not in physically taxing manual labor roles. All of the jobs we have
mentioned are going to get more automated, but right now humans still have an advantage over robots
when it comes to dexterity. We are making our robots smarter and better, but maybe we should be
wary about where that might take us. For some industries, an increase in automation will not mean a
decline in employment, but rather a shift in the tasks needed to be done. For example, any job that
involves managing people, applying expertise and social interaction will still be necessary, human
performance in those areas can't be matched by a machine. Research by the networking platform
found that fewer professionals are adding accounting and financial reporting to their profiles. Instead,
employees are beefing up their online resumes with more soft skills like management, leadership and
customer service.

While the impact of robots and automation may be scary to some. Like Bill Gates says the issue is
nothing to panic about. According to Gates, anyone with skills in science, engineering and economics
will always be in demand. In this hypothetical, robots can equal humans in all intellectual,
mathematical, engineering, and creative pursuits. Robots are cheaper and more efficient than humans.
Robots can be mass produced and once one has been programmed or trained, that data can be
instantly and infinitely duplicated. In other words, when there is a choice between a robot and human
with equal potential, the robot is always the more efficient choice. And when robots are skilled
enough to take over every single job bucket on the market, there will not be any buckets left for
humans. That is when reemployment becomes unemployment. If robots were to achieve a level of
intelligence that matched the human mind, it would be reasonable to assume that they will also be
intelligent enough to take care of themselves. Such an intelligence would imply the ability to self-
replicate, self-repair, and even gather their own energy resources. This would free up humans to
pursue whatever they want without any material limitations. If robots became super-intelligent, the
gap between them and us may be large or even larger than like the gap between us and ants. At that
point, we will lose any illusion of control over our creations.
It is hard to summarize this kind of speculative discussion because there are so many possibilities that
are just too far in the future, but here is the gist of it: while machines are not the cause of modern
economic woes, they will have a profound effect within the next century, and we need to be prepared
for it.

Difference between human intelligence and artificial intelligence

Human intelligence are natural no artificial things are there. For human intelligence, they need to plan
for a work or task then perform the task or work.
4

Artificial intelligence is made by human. Artificial intelligence is mainly robots. Robots can be use in
different ways like in restaurants, in militaries, in car production, in manufacturing. Robots are mainly
work in form of numbers. Humans make the artificial intelligence. Humans are more dependable than
Artificial intelligence. But some people said that humans make more mistakes than robots. Robots can
work in a certain thing which his creator program on him, but human can do anything. But I think
compare between these two things is wrong because they are different things. Robots cannot think but
it is good in processing any data. But people can think and they also can process data.

Working process of Artificial intelligence

According to the father of Artificial Intelligence, John McCarthy, it is “The science and engineering
of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs”. It actually runs by
humans. “It is combining a large amount of data with fast iterative processing and intelligent
algorithms, allowing the software to learn automatically from pattern of feature in data”. It works on
human’s command. It cannot do anything without human’s order. Humans design robots for make
easier their job and robots can do the certain things which programed in robot. Robots cannot do
beyond his program. And he does not understand anything beyond his program. Artificial intelligence
fully based on science and technology such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering,
Biology, Physics. All this thing needs to create any artificial intelligence. The main reason behind
creating artificial intelligence is reduce humans work. For example, Computer can solve any math
problem before human.

Artificial intelligence is a thread for human

Some robots are program to kill. If this kind of robots go in wrong hand then it is a problem. That is a
thread for mankind. And also, robots have no feelings like humans. If I say to a robot to drive a car
straight the maybe any human come in front of the car robot will not turn the car left or right
probably, he will kill the human and go straight. And social media is also a artificial thing. And now a
days we have so many Facebook slaves, Twitter addict and other social media addicts. So, if we think
in that way this thing is giving a bad impact in humans, so that is also a threat for humans. Robots are
taking humans jobs. All human’s job is going in robots’ hand so lot of peoples are going jobless. For
making robots or any kind of artificial machines humans need to work on them and sometimes
explosions happened and peoples die in those explosions. So that is also a threat. “Stephen Hawking
(who died in March at age 76) said that AI machines could spell the end of the human race.”

The importance of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence creates for make humans life easier. There are lot of importance of artificial
intelligence.
A great help for humans: Artificial intelligence can reduce human effort in various areas. It can work
faster than human. It can do error free work. In recent years many sectors are using artificial
intelligence like manufacturing sector, food packing sector, farming, and the get better result.
Medical science: In medical science, scientists should do so many chemical mixings or something like
that. Sometimes scientists do that wrong, but artificial intelligence do error free work, so in medical
science artificial intelligence can play a vital role.
Lift heavy materials: Humans cannot lift so much weight. But in constructions work they need lot of
heavy materials. This heavy material can lift by artificial intelligence.
5

Security: Peoples who needs security they can use artificial intelligence for security. Humans
sometimes cannot give that much security but artificial intelligence can do that thing easily.
Changed the face of gaming: We all remember the game ‘Super Mario’ was the best game. But now
artificial intelligence changed the face of game. Now we can play super exiting games in TV or PC.

Jobs that will be taken over by the AI in next 20 years

1. Driver: The driving system is on the verge of complete automation. Job like taxi driving, bus
driving, uber driving, track driving will be automated by 2040. US based electrical car company Tesla
has already made their cars semi-automated and the CEO of this company ELON MUSK has stated
that it will take them 5 years to make their cars completely automated. Germany is already adopted
and approved the idea. In US alone will lose 10 million driving jobs if it comes true.

2. Farmer:  Farming was huge when it came to employment numbers back in the day this has changed
dramatically though we might still see farming as human labor intensive in the under-developed parts
of the world, but on a macro level this has already been automated with very few specially trained
individuals that operate heavy machinery from the comforts of the office via wireless connections.
Back in the day, you needed to physically measure your plot of land needed human labor to weed it
out and another set of people to harvest and transport the end product to where it is needed. Now we
measure things with drones or satellite imagery the soil is already treated against weeds or the seeds
are weed resistant to begin with. Harvesting and planting can be done in a small fraction of the time it
used to thanks to specialized hardware and the trucks carrying out will be self-driving really soon
bearing the title of farmer in the near future will be as highly ranked as banker or hedge fund manager
since they will only be a handful of people having the oligopoly when it comes to what you eat and
only a few people will be in charge of our food.

3.Printer and Publishers: The newspaper is dead. Traditional media is suffering as the Internet is
eating up everything, we no longer need to get your news from the papers. We get them via Twitter or
livestreams as they are happening. All traditional magazines are fighting for their lives not to survive
one versus the other but to survive as a whole. We know that despite having such a strong brand
name, Forbes Magazine, are on the verge of collapse despite their massive push into digital media
information is free and there are very few publishers where the trust in the brand is enough to keep the
motor going. A great example is the New York Times one of the only publications who have
successfully implemented a paywall for readers to consume their written content.

4. Cashiers:  America alone has 8 million people working as cashiers and in-store sales people. These
people are going to be out of a job sooner than they think I know we have seen the self-checkout
stations and they still have someone supervising them and they are bringing now and then, but we are
not far from a total takeover of the machines in this space .If you have been following what the
biggest commerce giants are doing it is easy to connect the dots Amazon acquired Whole Foods for
close to fourteen billion dollars. The same Amazonis running pilot tests with what they call Amazon
go, corner store with zero humans involved where you just walk and get what you need and walk out
with everything you bought being automatically deducted from your credit card sensors.
6

5. Travel Agents: When the last time we went to a travel agency to book a flight. Online booking
system took over the flight ticket industry. Airbnb is disrupting the hotel business as a whole. There is
no need for a third person to book the flight or hotel room for us, we can do it ourselves.

6. Manufacturing workers:  When the Industrial Revolution hit, all the people working the fields
moved to work in factories handcrafting the machines that would make our lives easier in the process.
And with the advancement In technology, these same people were put in charge of building machines
that build other machines that would eliminate the need for humans. A fun thing to do is to compare
the way cars were built less than a hundred years ago in the factories of looks wagon and how they
area built today with multiple humans but mostly with robots.

7.  Dispatchers:  An astonishingly high number of people are still working as dispatchers. Today the
role of the dispatcher is to coordinate the field operators so things run smoothly for everybody. It does
not matter if you are a firefighter dispatcher working with planes, the police or ambulances we already
have technology that is massively outperforming you at your job and we are now figuring out just the
final touches on what is the best way to deploy that technology. Remember only five years ago when
you had to call someone and ask for a cab how do you ask for an uber or a lift today one algorithm
making their way into your particular niche of dispatching and your job is over.

8.Waiters and Bartender:     Not all of them will be gone but the bulk surely have one foot out the
door already, of course, there is a need for social interaction but that is not always the case sometimes
people just want to sit down and have the food arrive at your table as soon as possible that can be
successfully replaced by a carefully documented algorithm and an iPad. More and more restaurants
are jumping in on this trend all around the world.

9. Bank Tellers:  We are sad to say this as the lady at our bank has always been so nice to me but we
are not going to the bank for social interaction to be honest. We do not go to the bank anymore or
very rarely when a visit is really needed. Otherwise we check out our balance on our smartphones
even the people on our payroll get their money delivered to their accounts automatically without the
need for us to manually and physically fill in a form with their details. If you want to grab cash you go
to an ATM. You can open a bank account to most banks in the world online and only if you are
looking for specialized services you might need to meet in person and even then, you might get the
job done with a video call. Now-a -days, Bkash and Rocket are almost took over the job of bank teller
for small transaction in Bangladesh.

10.  Military Pilots and Soldiers:  The military is the most sensible industry to innovation it is the
first one to embrace it and deploy it. If back in the day wars were decided based on who had the
largest number of troops, today it is a technology play. We no longer see people holding bayonets and
riding horses into battle because that would be inefficient. Drones can hit target more accurately than
any human could without endangering the life of the pilot who is sitting comfortably in a chair on the
other side of the world. There is still a need for human soldiers but not as we know them. These are
the special options the best of the best who are deployed only when there is no other technology at
play.
7

11. Fast Food Workers: In US, what people were asking for $15 an hour to work at McDonald that
is when automation kicks in all the people protesting the low wages.  Unskilled jobs will be the first
ones to be hit. Fast-food jobs are probably the easiest to automate out of the list and to be honest it
would have happened anyway but companies did not do it right away because they did not have any
incentive to mess with something that is working fine right now. But now with all the protests the
government might actually give in and that is when the wave of automation take-over.

12. Telemarketer: have you noticed that there are already fewer and fewer telemarketers their entire
industry has been taken over by targeted ads all around the internet and on all of your devices
specially constructed based on the information.  The tech giants have gathered information from your
use on their platforms. Facebook is not a charity. It uses all the data from the things you like click on
share or engage with to create a custom profile for every single one of its users’ batch them and sell
them to other companies. We ourselves use that type of data to know customer’s interest to sell our
product. There was probably an ad promoting something you more or less are interested in. Ads are
getting smarter as they learn more and more from you and that’s why telemarketers are obsolete.

13. Accountants and Tax Preparers: If it's one thing we’ve learned so far from this list it’s that
boring and repetitive jobs will be taken over by algorithms. What’s the role of an accountant to go
through your raw data and organize it. That’s like the favourite thing to do for algorithms that's where
they shine baby. The average accountant in the US earns around $60,000 per year and there are 1.3
million registered accountants and auditors even if it would cost fifteen billion dollars to create a
highly sophisticated AI that would get the job done perfectly. That piece of software would pay for
itself in under two years that’s why AI engineers are going after accountants’ lawyers and medical
professionals.

14.  Stock Traders: Long are the days of Jordan Belfort and Gordon Gekko, a study done by
Bloomberg Andin late 2015 discovered that only 10% of the stocks traded on a daily basis worldwide
are traded by actual humans and investors the rest are BOTS. Wherever there’s money someone will
try to automate it and get an edge against their competitors. The stock market is one of those places
and the people behind the biggest funds in the world have deep enough pockets to capitalize on. For
example, suppose, you want to buy a particular stock you go to your favourite trading platform or
secured portfolio management dashboard, you fill in the info with how much you want to buy at said
trading price and hit buy in the time it takes for the signal to reach the servers and approve the order.
The bots have already realized you’re going to purchase that stock they buy it for themselves trade it
between themselves and then sell it to you at a noticeably bigger price welcome to the world of micro
trading where bots always win you're not going to beat the market.

15. Construction Workers:  Back here on earth where people actually use their hands and backs to
make things happen. There are at least 200 million people working in construction around the world
and with developing countries wanting to expand. You'd expect a number job is to be on the rise,
well, it isn't and that’s because technology is getting more and more efficient and affordable.
8

Developers now need more machines and a slightly more specialized workforce to use set machines to
build as technology progresses. We can see that construction workers will follow the same path as
those who used to work in the farming industry in the past unless you're the owner of the enterprise or
one of those specialized employees who are further down the line of automation.

Decisions and Outcomes:

We asked Abdullah Al Masud Tushar, Software Engineer of Brain Station-23, Do you think AI and
Robotics will replace human within this century? He said, “Well, as the field of AI and Robotics
becoming flourished since last decades, it is very much noticeable that in so many sectors of industry
AI based machines has already started replacing human. So, it it very predicable to say AI and
Robotics will replace not all but the major part of human responsibilities.”. We then asked him, Is it
really possible for Artificial intelligent to become more intelligent than human intelligence in future?
He replied. “Yes, it is absolutely possible and that possibility now became a good threat for the future
of human race.” We also asked Mun Al Mamun, founder of IoT Code Lab and Ex-President of East
West University Robotics Club about the topic. He said, “Simply no. But there are lots of other things
to consider. But still the answer will be no.”

Yse, the matter is now a concern. But it will not replace people with technical knowledge. Most of
people do not even know they are being used by AI based system. Even the survey also says that. We
will have to wait more to see that future but we really hope for the best.

Conclusion

In this way, artificial intelligence can achieve great discoveries and advances for humanity due to its
multiple possibilities. Most artificial intelligence systems have the ability to learn, which allows
people to improve their performance over time. The adoption of AI outside the technology sector is at
an early or experimental stage. The evidence suggests that AI can provide real value to our lives.AI
bases its operation on accessing huge amounts of information, processing it, analyzing it and,
according to its operation algorithms, executing tasks to solve certain problems. Due to the new
computing architectures of the cloud, this technology becomes more affordable for any organization.
11

Robotics combined with AI surely will take way huge amount of jobs but people have to shift from
their current job to another one. Because it will create a huge amount of job sector to maintain those
AI.
