HOW TO GET THROUGH THE PANDEMIC
Most of us, if not all, has been left in ruins in this terrifying time of a pandemic. We have
been isolating, quarantining for almost a year, now. This virus-stricken world we are living in
has brought an absurdly life-changing experience to everybody. It has greatly affected our lives
that the word "normal" has become an illusion because nothing seems to be normal anymore. But
no matter how tough this year has been to everybody; we have to hold and eventually get
through this pandemic together. By following necessary safety protocols such as social
distancing, wearing of masks, and isolation are all crucial for us to overcome this pandemic. It
not just mental and physiological stability that can get us through it, adherence to these practices
also have a huge impact on how we are going to handle this trying times of pandemic.
Each individual was challenged differently in one way or another. We all lived different
lives and each were given with different set of challenges. Some people lost their jobs, lost their
aspirations, dreams, or plans for their own future, if not totally lost it, then put on hold or
delayed. Some people are struggling with their academics, students and teachers are having
troubles because of the sudden adjustments needed for education to still thrive in this time of a
pandemic. Some students as well were forced to stop their education because of financial
problems brought about this lockdown. The worst-case scenario is that people also lost their
lives, lost their loved ones because of the novel coronavirus.
We are all mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually challenged in this pandemic. We
needed to do whatever that get us through all these conflicts. By following the social distancing
protocols, we can greatly reduce the number of infected people and contain the virus. Going on a
night out is not really worth anything as you is only jeopardizing your own life, and even the life
of other people that you interact to. The rippling effect of our actions means a lot in this
pandemic. Do not go out there if it is not necessary to risk everything. You have to keep in mind
that your action affects other people as well. Be responsible enough so no casualty will add up to
what this pandemic has already done to the world.
I know that it is really hard not to wind out in this very stressful season but we have to
find other ways to relieve our stress, methods that does not worsen our current state, approaches
that does not have consequences to the lives of other people. Do things that relaxes you such as
listening to music, watching movies, reading a book, anything that doesn't need interaction with
people. If you are with your family then this is the best time to have some quality time. We have
to make the best out of this bad time. Do things that make you feel productive. Work on yourself.
Be better on the things that you were not confident of. Improve that public speaking skills of
yours. Learn to play instruments, learn how to draw. Develop healthy habits. You see, these little
things improve our mental health and have a drastic effect on our mental health. And we need to
keep our mental health to be healthy and stable to get us all through this mess. We need to
develop a bright outlook in these darker days. We need to have a better mindset to get over this
situation. It doesn't matter if you finish this year, this semester strong. What matters most is that
you finish it, and you are still not giving up.
I, myself, was mentally devastated in this season of home quarantining. I never felt so
low in my life and how my mental illness has never peaked so high just until this pandemic has
happened. I have been dealing with my depression for years now and I have never felt so
wrecked before. But if not all these things that this pandemic had caused me, I never would have
realized that I have to heal myself now more than ever. I realized that time is very important and
I have wasted enough of it. This pandemic has beaten my mental health, I was shattered to the
point that I have to discontinue my course in college. But the good thing is that it made me
realize I was not fit to my chosen course and that I was meant for something that I can really
excel at. You see that we just have to find that teeny-weeny spark of light that makes us hold on
to hope that despite all these negativities that’s happening in this world, there are still things to
be proud of, things that we have to celebrate, and things that we have to be grateful.
It has been a horrifying year for all of us. These challenges are way too overwhelming.
We became paranoid and anxious on all the things that's been happening this year. These events
from the external world has added a lot of stress to our internal turmoil. A lot of our plans were
put on hold. We have gained some realizations. We have awakened ourselves and reminded that
what really matters most are the things that we have on our side, our friends, our families, our
health, our sanity, our lives. Do whatever that gets you through all this mess, do what keeps you
going, but always keep in mind of the possible consequences to all of your actions. Keep holding
on and we will reach the light at the end of the tunnel.
