ocial business combines the best of two worlds: the
social mission of a charitable organisation with the
acumen of traditional for-profit businesses. They are
set up to solve a specific problem to benefit the poor,
and all other people, either through creating additional
income or providing essential products and services
like healthcare, safe water, or clean energy. Social businesses allow the
poor freedom to choose for themselves the services and products they
want, rather than becoming the recipients of aid. It is a revolutionary
way of seeing business, not as a tool to drive profits, but a mechanism to
efficiently achieve social change.
