Nicio The Teaching Profession

BSED – RE 2 Oct. 5, 2020

1. Do you believe that teachers are the most responsible and important members of society?
Give situations that show how teachers respond to the different missions as part of the
society.
 Yes, I believe that teachers are both the most responsible and the most important
members of society for three reasons. First, teachers serve as role models in society.
The way they act inside the classroom will greatly affect the attitude formation of
the students they are teaching. Second, teachers build professions. They teach
students who will become architects, engineers, businessmen, etc. Without teachers,
none of these professions will be achieve by the students. Lastly, teachers become a
source of inspiration for the society. Their efforts in teaching makes us realize to do
the same in our daily lives, to give our best in everything we do. These three
reasons show the importance of teachers and how their responsibilities affect the
society. Having realize these things, we must never underestimate our teachers, for
without them, our society will not be in order.
2. What is your philosophy as a person?
 As a person, my philosophy is aligned with faith. I always try to live my life
according to the teachings and precepts of the Church. This includes attend Mass
often, watching religious documentaries, reading spiritual books, and living in a
Christian manner. I also try my best to avoid committing sins, be it venial or mortal.
I have developed this philosophy in life because I know I will end up dying. While I
know that I should enjoy life, I always bear in mind that anytime, God may call me
to come back to His Kingdom; that is why I always try to live according to what the
Church teaches us. In the same manner, as a future educator, I want to be formed as
a God-fearing teacher who will be inspire students to live their lives

1. EXPLAIN: The last sentence “The idea that people are not isolated from one another,
but that mankind is isolate.”
 This simply tells us that we are not separated from one another, but we are isolating
ourselves from each other. This is best manifested in our modern society wherein
technology replaced almost all aspects of our lives. Instead of communicating to the
people around us who are physically present, we choose instead to communicate to
the people who are virtually present in our gadgets. We are always given the
privilege of communicating to those who are physically around us, but at many
times, we neglect this privilege and choose instead to use our gadgets for
communicating.
2. What is your role as a teacher, as a person in our society?
 As a future teacher, my role in society is to inspire my students in giving their best
in everything. As what St. Teresa of Calcutta said, “Do ordinary things with
extraordinary love". We are called to do the same - even the simple things in life,
we must do it with our very best, by putting love as we do such simple things. I
hope that I will be able to inspire them by doing my best in teaching them about
their faith.
 As a person, my role in society is to be a peacemaker. It does not mean that I should
be scolding those who are causing trouble, but that I myself should be a source of
peace. Being a peaceful person in the society, I should not be the source of anything
that may cause any trouble in the society. Also, I should be an example for those
who are causing division because they chose not to be a peacemaker, but to be
troublemakers.

1. Choose two sentences in this slide and explain.

 Many a time, the teacher is blamed for the many ills in society. There are lot of
demands and much is expected from you.
o This tells us how difficult it is to be a teacher. First, teachers are
blamed for the troubles of the society. Given that they create
professions, if they fail to form the attitude of the students, this causes
the many ills in our society. It is a challenge for teachers to teach their
students not just the lessons, but also about life. Second, a lot are
expected and demanded from teachers. People expect that teachers
will bring change in the world, because they are one of the
foundations of education. Also, people demand teachers to simplify
their lessons so that students may not be loaded with too much
information. These are just two of the many difficulties that teachers
encounter. And we know that there are a lot more – their rights, their
salary, and their benefits.
 Thus, Your Philosophy of Life and your Philosophy of Education serve as your
“window” to the world and “compass” in the sea of Life.
o It tells us that teachers need to have a philosophy about their life and
education because both of these will help them progress in their
teaching profession. It is their window to the world because through
these philosophies, we know the world we are moving in, especially
the field of education where we are working as teachers. It is also
their compass in life for it guides them to the path they will be
heading through. This path is how will they be improving as teachers
in school and as persons in society.

1. Write a short story about this slide.

 In a small academic institution, Teacher Carlos, a fresh graduate of Secondary
Education, applies for a teaching job. The school is in dire need of someone like
him, because they lack in Christian Formation teachers, and the academic year have
already started. Along the way, while he was walking around the campus, he was
bumped by a group of students fighting over each other. His application papers fell
into the ground as a result of the bumping. While he was picking up his papers, an
old looking woman approached her. He talked to her and said, “Good morning
ma’am. May I ask where is the HR office?” The woman replied, “It is located in the
second floor. You just take the stairs on the right side and then turn left and you’ll
see the HR office.” The woman, out of curiosity also said, “Why are you asking the
location of the HR office?” Carlos replied, “Because I am applying for a teaching
job.” Then the woman continued, “Oh, I see. Good luck to you! And don’t you
worry because the first thirty years of teaching are the hardest." He was then
pressured of teaching; nevertheless, he then proceeded to the HR office and applied
for a teaching job.

1. Explain and give example for each standard of practice for the teaching profession.
 Commitment to Students and Student Learning
o A teacher must believe that all students have the capacity to learn, at their
level, at their own pace, with a variety of learning strategies that appeal to
their learning styles, personalities and personal creativity. It is their duty to
provide students with learning opportunities that will equip them to deal
with the challenges of life and prepare them to make a positive contribution
to society.
o For example, a teacher sees that one of his students have a hard time
learning the topic. He talked to that student and found out that he has a
visual problem. The teacher, being committed to his students and their
learning, made an adjustment in his slides by increasing the font size of the
text.
 Leadership in Learning Communities
o Teachers have a responsibility to provide a peaceful, mutually supportive
learning environment for all students, one that respects the highest levels of
ethical standards.
o For example, a teacher works with professionals, parents, and members of
the community by conducting an outreach program which aims to enhance
student learning, student achievement, and school programs.

 Professional Knowledge
o A teacher must be committed to the joys and challenges of learning. They
must respect the progress being made through research, and plan to
incorporate innovations in their professional learning.
o For example, a teacher discusses a subject to his students. He knows the
content of this subject through the syllabus and uses different approaches in
teaching which he believes will help the students learn easily.
 Professional Practice
o A teacher uses their professional knowledge and understanding of students,
curriculum, legislation, teaching practices, and classroom management
strategies to promote the learning and achievement of their students.
o For example, a teacher conducts ongoing assessment of students' progress,
evaluates their achievement, and reports results to students and their parents
regularly.
 Outgoing Professional Learning
o A teacher must be committed to pursue opportunities to grow in knowledge
as educators. Teaching is a lifelong vocation that requires lifelong learning.
o For example, a teacher attends a seminar that is relevant to the subject
he/she is teaching. This way, his/her knowledge of the subject improves, and
thus he/she can share more ideas when he/she teaches that subject to his/her
students after the seminar.
