RAMA KRISHNA ( SURAMPALEM) RESERVOIR

SCHEME FOR CABINET SUB COMMITTEE

 Sri.K.V. Rama Krishna (Surampalem) Reservoir Scheme is a Medium Irrigation

Project constructed across Buradakalva in Surampalem village limits of agency
Gangavaram Mandal in East Godavari District. The scheme envisages formation of
reservoir on Buradakalva to store 7.055 M.cum. (249.15 M.cft) of water mainly to
Irrigate 5726 ha (14,150 Acres). Out of this ayacut, 3408 Acres IS laying in the tribal
areas of Gangavaram (M) and 10,742 acres is laying in upland areas of Gokavaram &
Korukonda (M) of East Godavari District and drinking water to a population of
42,800 in 18 Villages.
 The administrative approvals was accorded in different government orders to a total
amount of Rs.56.7649 Crores (Rs.44.3768 Crs vide G.O.Ms.No: 40, Dt: 27.03.2000,
Rs.7.00 Crs vide G.O Ms.163, Dt.01.10.2004, Rs.1.3261Crs vide G.O Ms.No.130
Dt.19.07.2004, Rs.0.4620 Crs vide G.O.Ms.No.1787, Dt.06.12.2005 and Rs.3.60 Crs
vide G.O.Ms.No.137, Dt.06.09.2003).
 The total value of all technical sanctions accorded so far is Rs.5550.99Lakhs against
the above administrative sanctions.
 Revised Administrative approval was accorded by the Government for Rs. 69.7442
Crores vide G.O.Ms.No. 44, Dt: 06.09.2014.
 As the work of Sri.K.V. Rama Krishna (Surampalem) Reservoir Scheme including of
main canal from Km.0.00 to Km.38.121 and its distributories including CM & CD
works was completed. The project was inaugurated on 11.09.2006. The water is
being released for the ayacut since 2006.
 Though the net increase in the project is sanctioned in 06.09.2014, the increase in
value is based on the recommendations of the Committee of Chief Engineers.. The net
increase of Rs.12.52Crs is attributable to the technical reasons cited by the Engineer-
in-chief vide Lr.no:ENC/ISPP/DCE2/OT.7/AEE3/251/05/VOL.8 DT:29-05-2013
and dt:04-05-2014.

 The expenditure incurred so far is Rs. crores.

 Further on observing the performance of the canal system for 5years, water is not
reaching the tail end reaches. As per the Joint Azmoish conducted during 2012, it
was observed that only 8154.17 acres were irrigated against the IP created of
11560 acres. As such it is proposed to provide C.C lining for the stretches from
km0.00 to km 8.00,km 8.00 to 16.32 and km 16.32 to km 23.850 of the main canal
to improve its performance for which the line estimates are prepared and worked
out to Rs.7.65 crores. Copies of line estimates for the above 3 reaches of main canal
are enclosed herewith. In addition to the above, two more works are identified as
they are found necessary for filing up gullies, repairs to sluices, silt removal and
repairs to gates etc., for proper functioning of Surampalem Reservoir Project. Now
the total number of works comes to 16nos for an amount of Rs.12.52 crores. The
expenditure towards these works can be met from the same Revised estimate
amount submitted for sanction. The statement showing the works already
completed and works yet to be taken up are enclosed in Annexure I&II. The above
works were not included in the Revised estimate.
