Purpose: Use this aid to see what has changed in the Materials Management and Production Planning and Control modules
in SAP ERP 6.0.

Functional Enhancements to the Materials Management and Production Planning Modules in

SAP ERP 6.0
The Materials Management (MM) and Production Planning and Control (PP) modules have seen several significant
enhancements in the evolution from SAP R/3 to SAP ERP 6.0. Many of the enhancements are shared by the two modules.

Some of the key enhancements include

cross-system flow of goods, which supports many activities relating to cross-system business
processes, including streamlined entry that can handle cross-system processes across multiple
logical systems, clients, and company code rules
support for common functions within a single system including order monitoring, purchase order
monitoring, and document flow
version management for purchasing documents that enables easy identification of various data
passed on to a vendor
order processing with radio frequency identification (RFID) in order to automate the identification and
tracking of physical objects such as pallets and supplies
design collaboration functionality to enhance productivity and collaboration with partners and
suppliers during the product design phase
functionality to track partial goods receipt for inbound deliveries, which enables the availability of
goods to be tracked more accurately and allows the logical representation of goods tracked in
software to be tied more accurately to the physical representation of goods
task and resource management functionality designed to optimize monitoring and management of the
warehouse, which reduces cost and improves productivity
Adobe Forms integration, allowing for reduced form implementation cost
facility for handling equipment card, which reduces administrative cost and load in maintaining and
monitoring working equipment utilized by employees
self-service requisitioning to improve procurement speed and awareness, while reducing
administrative burden
ability to prioritize the servicing of material requisitions according to their urgency
business add-in for deductible payables so that it is now possible to change the general ledger
accounts on which chargeable components are recorded and allows management to instruct the
program to post data to profitability analysis
enhanced search functionality for a range of master data including a quick search and an advanced
search
integration of web-based catalogs in purchasing
new interfaces in the Business Application Programming Interfaces (BAPI) for creating outline
agreements – outline agreements are contracts with vendors containing special conditions.
new commitment plan functionality for purchase contracts, making it possible to preplan value
consumption for a purchase contract
ability to maintain InfoCubes, reports, and queries so that it is possible to determine how and where
the costs associated with purchasing documents have been assigned and controlled. This is now
possible because purchasing account information has been transferred to the former SAP Business
Information Warehouse component. This functionality is now part of SAP NetWeaver.
SAP Roles
