Basic hockey nutrition


Training and history
Hockey originated an incredibly long time ago
around 4,000 years ago by people in egypt. It
was a game they often played and apparently
stuck around. Hockey is a game which is on
ice and a puck is passed around by players on
skates using hockey sticks. In this sport, the
players train a lot. They can do team training
or even individually. Some of the training is
called stick and puck. This focuses on basic
movement on handling the puck to better
improve their skills. Other training could be on
a “Blade skating” treadmill. This is a treadmill
which players focus on their skating and
speed. There are plenty of other training
outside of specific hockey exercises. On their own they can workout in a normal gym
like others. Focusing on endurance and building muscle. Typically, NHL players should
work on things like squats, core workouts, and pushing/pulling. Some nutritional
demands are consuming lots of carbohydrates and proteins not only before but
especially after to help with recovery.

Patrice Bergeron
Patrice Bergeron is a professional
NHL hockey player. He plays
centerman for the Boston Bruins
and has previously played forward.
He played for the Bruins in 2011
when they won 1 out of their 6
Stanley Cup championships.
Bergeron is 35 years old, 6’2, and
weighs about 190lbs. He is ranked
in the top 20 for centerman and
plays professional.

Meal Plan
On game day, it is always important to eat lots of protein. For starters, the most
important meal of the day…
Breakfast:
- Oatmeal
- Eggs
- Protein powders/shakes
- Milk and water
Lunch:
- Yogurt
- Salad w/ dressing
- Banana
- Wheat bread w/ peanut butter
- Milk and water
Pre-game / dinner:
- Pasta
- Chicken
- vegetables

snacks / between periods:


- protein/energy bars
- Fruit

Overall, throughout the day, an NHL players diet mainly consists of


protein. It is a really good source of energy for their games and
workouts. Lots of these players eat a lot of food throughout the day so
therefore this might not be everything, but this is mostly what their diet
should consist of. They consume about 5,000-6,000 calories per day.
Throughout this project I have learned how it is incredibly important to
fuel your body with lots of protein and how hard these athletes work to
get where they are.
