2. What have we found out about daycare – is it beneficial or why? Why or not?

If you
were designing a Childcare programs what elements activities would you include in it?
And why? What do you think is missing from current day care programs (if anything)?

Daycare is a double-edged sword. It is beneficial because it allows parents to give their

children a place to continue development if they must go to work. Though this is time
away from parents, it allows the parents to earn money so that they can help their child
grow. On the other hand, it is possible that putting a child in daycare for excessive
amounts of time can have detrimental effects. It is possible that children will not have as
strong of an attachment to his or her parents as they are developing. Another benefit is
that the children are able to interact with other children and learn important social skills
that they may not learn if they are confined to living in a house. Finally, daycare allows
children to begin gaining some basic knowledge on their developing paths of life.

If I were to design a daycare, there are several important aspects that I would include.
One would be plenty of playing time to allow children to develop their social and motor
skills. Also, I would be sure that there is time for basic learning such as teaching basic
numbers, letters, and words. I would also be sure there was time for physical activity like
playing on a playground or playing outside. Another important part would be art time.
This allows children to be expressive and can be a great place to teach colors and shapes.
The last part I would include would be music time. Though I have a personal bias
towards music, I feel that it is very important that children are exposed to music, as well
as allowing them to be involved.

I do not really know what is missing from daycare programs because they are all very
different. I believe that what I would put into a daycare program are things that are very
important to a child’s development. At least the basic concepts that I mentioned should
probably be included so that children do not get bored and at the same time are able to
develop.
