How many more muted greys can a designer need?
Why would someone insist on a burgundy in which the
wine tone nudges a certain shade of plum? Colour,
like music, is mood and emotion and a slight tweak here
and there, as any artist will attest, can create magic.
It comes in infinite shades and tones, its compositions
limited only by the imagination. The spectrum goes on
and on and on and to the designer the right one is the
right one, no other shade will do. Which is where we
come in. Take for example our glorious Colour of the
Year - the joyous Coral Radiance. Just the right shade of
sunset. Anyone watching the dense rich, orange sphere
descending over the sea will attest to its mesmeric power.
Recreating it is not just about adding a touch of this to a
touch of that – it is a colour science, knowing first of all if
this particular shade resonates, knowing where and how
it can be used, knowing if there’s a trend over the horizon
that calls for it. This kind of confidence comes with years
of experience and expertise. We have six decades of both,
mining the spectrum for all kinds of possibilities and
coming up with colour magic, working closely all the time
with design experts, studying the needs of our consumers.

ColourNext15 is our 12th year of an annual series of

colour forecasts. It contains yet again a spellbinding
array of colours curated by design experts across the
land. The selections are based on our close study of the
subtle societal shifts that are taking place before our very
eyes - that affect the way we live and express ourselves.
Taking a snapshot as it were of social currents, honing in
on the most defining features, adding to that the intuition
and aesthetic flair of our select panel of advisors we
bring to you the Asian Paints colour trends for the year.

public spaces are given as much

claiming spaces outside their

COLOURNEXT 2015
Behind the Colour Stories

Introduced in 2003, ColourNext, our annual colour forecast, has

become widely recognised as being a powerful tool for designers,
architects and anyone working with colour to refer to for the
upcoming years’ freshest colours and a springboard for design
ideas.

Indias’ finest design minds, including architects, sociologists

and advertising professionals work side by side to break
down, analyse and draw conclusions from changing consumer
behaviour and how that impacts colour and décor choices. Sifting
through media, contemporary design spaces and interviews
with sociologists and anthropologists to design thinkers, trend
forecasters and media professionals allows a picture to emerge of
evolving trends. This information then informs a panel of select
designers across India who brainstorm over colour associations
which are then translated into a range of colour stories and
themes that reflect the moods of the year. A further distillation by
industry leaders and design experts chosen by the Asian Paints
colour marketing team produces even more refinement – the final
colour stories are born, distinct and defining, an accurate picture
of the times. These along with emerging consumer segments and
an expertly curated spectrum of colours are then presented as the
upcoming years’ ColourNext.
