Present Perfect Continuous – have/has + been + ing

1. Ongoing situations – both tenses


I’ve worked for this company for 2 years.
I’ve been working for this company for 2 years.

I’ve waited for you for ages.


I’ve been waiting for you for ages. – Present Perfect Continuous
emphasizes the long period or the repeated action

!!! With state verbs we only use Present Perfect Simple / wait,
understand, like, remember, etc./

I’ve been liking….

I’ve always liked being outside in nature.

2. Completed actions – Present Perfect Simple

I’ve called her several times today / 5 times/ - when you say
how many times, minutes, use Present Perfect Simple
I’ve been calling her all afternoon. – we don’t say how many
times, but it was all afternoon (repeated, long action)

3. Present evidence that it was a longer activity – Present Perfect


Continuous

Look at them. They’ve been playing computer games all


afternoon.
Sorry about the delay. I’ve been waiting for my transport for 20
minutes.
