SCHOOL 9)

Zone 1 – Adobe Illustrator

NODE 3: Advanced Features of Illustrator
 Save the Illustrator Format
Save the Illustrator, you can save it in a different format. Aside from the basic document Al, you can save it as PDF
(Portable Document Format) and SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) formats. Select the Preserve Illustrator Editing
Capabilities options to preserve all Illustrator data. SVG saves the active artboard only, although the content from all
artboards is displayed. EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) and FXG (Flash XML Graphics) can save they preserve all
Illustrator data, including multiple artboards.
Save as AI, PDF, SVG, EPS, FXG files.
1. Click File in Menu commands, and then choose Save, Save As, or Save a Copy.
2. From the Save As dialog box, click Save as type to choose the format type.
3. Type a filename, and select a location for the file, then click the Save button.

Save as artwork for Microsoft Office

When you save your file in Microsoft Office, it creates a PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file that you can use in a
Microsoft Office application.
Use the Export command instead of the Save for Microsoft Office command to customize PNG settings, such as for
resolution, transparency, and background color. You can also save an artwork in PNG format using Save for Web.
1. Click File in Menu commands, and then select Save for Microsoft Office.
2. From the Save for Microsoft Office dialog box, type a filename, and choose a location for the file. Then click the
Save button.
 Insert, Import, and Convert Images and Graphics
There are many ways to use other images and graphics from other sources. You can import, insert, and convert
images and graphics to use.

Insert an image
1. Click File in Menu commands, and then select Place.
2. Select and insert an image from the Place dialog box you want and then click the Place button.
3. Click OK from the Move dialog box, if you will not modify the options.
Import a PDF file.

2. Select and insert the PDF file from the Place dialog box you want and then click the Place button.
3. Click OK from the Place PDF dialog box, if you will not modify the options.

The following are the Crop options.

Option Meaning
Bounding Box Place the PDF page’s bounding box, or the minimum area that encloses the objects on
the page, including page marks.
Art Place the PDF only on the area defined by a rectangle that the author created as a
placeable artwork (for example, clip art).
Crop Place the PDF only on the area that is displayed or printed by Adobe Acrobat.
Trim Place the PDF to identify the place where the final produced page will be physically cut in
the production process, if trim marks are present
Bleed Place the PDF only on the area that represents where all page content should be clipped,
if a bleed area is present. This information is useful if the page is being output in a
production environment. Note that the printed page may include page marks that fall
outside the bleed area
Media Place the PDF to the area that represents the physical paper size of the original PDF
document (for example, the dimensions of an A4 sheet of paper), including page marks.
Change vector graphics to a bitmap image
Vector graphics are geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygon(s), which are all
based on mathematical expressions, to represent images in computer graphics. Vector graphics are based on
vectors (also called paths or strokes) which lead through locations called control points.
Rasterization is the process of converting a vector graphic to a bitmap image. Illustrator rasterization converts the
graphic’s paths into pixels. It also defines the option you set for the size and other characteristics of the resulting
pixels. You can also rasterize an entire document by exporting it to a bitmap format, such as JPEG, GIF, or TIFF.
