When we want to ask for the location of a place we use questions like:

Excuse me. Is there a near here?

Pardon me. How can I get to ?
How far is the nearest from here?
Where can I find ?
Where is ?
Could you tell me where is, please?

To indicate locations, we use expressions such as:

on Avenue/Street across from

near in the middle of
at the end of the block next to
far from / not far from between
past/before on the corner (of)
opposite go straight ahead
in front of behind
turn right/left around the corner from
next door the first /second right/left

EXERCISE 1. Use this map and answer the questions below.

1. You are in front of the cinema. Walk along Main Street to the corner of Main and Harvard. Turn left and
go into the third store on your left.
Where are you?

2. You are on First Avenue at the subway station. Walk along First Avenue to Main Street. Turn right on
Main Street and go into the first shop on you right.
What store is opposite you?

Then take your second right. Go into the second door on your right.
