SPEAKING PROJECT: oral Presentation

Individual/pair work

Step 1  Select the topic

Choose one of the modules of your 11 th grade programme (“the world around us”, “Teen world”,
“The world of Work”, “Multicultural Wold” ) and select a sub-topic you think could be relevant
and interesting to develop with the rest of students. You can use the Projects recommended by
your textbook or suggest a different one – but you must respect the Programme.

Step 2Research part

Use the internet and/or other more traditional sources of information like books, magazines,
dictionaries..., interview people, etc, and then select all the relevant information that you
need. Organize all the data collected in a Portfolio/PowerPoint/poster...
Then, revise everything and check it with the teacher.

Step 3  Prepare your oral presentation (10-15 minutes the most)

Organize an activity, game, song, debate, roleplay… to do with the rest of the students. Think
about additional tools that you may need: pictures, power point, song, video, posters… Your oral
presentation will be more attractive and eye-catching if you use visual material. It helps
listeners follow your presentation.
Practise as many times as you need and speak clearly. Take into account grammar,
pronunciation, sentence structure and the type of vocabulary that you select. During the
presentation don’t read. Remember that the purpose of this activity is to assess your speaking
skills.

Finally :
Enjoy yourself. The audience (teacher and classmates) will be on your side and want to hear
what you have to say!

Evaluation criteria:
Oral presentation - 70%

Written work - 30%

Presentation dates: 11º A – 1st, 4th and 8th June 2010 (the written
work should be delivered the same dates)
