Adrenaline

Some say, why jump out of a perfectly functioning airplane?

Others say it is worth the risk, a feeling they can’t explain

I say life is too short not to try something of this sort

So I begin with waivers that make you want to abort

Harnessed up and feeling secured

I climb through the door and sit on the floor of the plane

Everyone straps in and the journey is ready to begin

The packed plane ascends and begins to circle the sky

Up and up and up we fly

10,000 feet to go

The feeling sets in, we are already high in the air

Now we are halfway there

5,000 feet to go

Preparing to jump we strap the harnesses together

The door opens up, and I can feel the cold wind pressuring in

1,000 feet to go
 Sliding towards the door, watching the others jump

My time comes to take the leap

The first through the door are my feet

The forceful wind blows past

We jump on the count of three

1...2...3...The air rushed through

We flipped and spun and then we flew

The feeling of floating sets in as I stare at the ground

Its like I am captivated by a painting 10,000 feet down

Falling at 120 miles per hour, the wind power

makes my face go numb

30 seconds go by and it is gone

The parachute gets deployed

and we begin to launch into the sky

like a rocketship in lift-off

All of a sudden we stop mid-air

like we are frozen in time and it can’t compare

to any other feeling I've felt before

And then we begin to soar

We glide from side to side

circling the the sky as the wind carries us gently down

Closer and closer towards the ground

 I never want this feeling to end

The canopy flight lasts for five minutes

And it was the part that really touched my heart

The peacefulness was like a work of art

And all of the problems of the world didn’t exist

for those five minutes

Only a few feet from the ground

I lift my legs up and we slide onto the grass

And once again I am earthbound

I see my family there as I pass

Now I know how a bird feels soaring through the sky

How lucky they are to be able to fly

And to be able to get away from the busyness of the ground

The adrenaline eventually came down

Now a days I think about that decision I made

The day after I turned eighteen

I did the thing that make many people afraid

Something you only see in an action scene

Hopefully now you understand

Why someone would jump out of a perfectly functioning airplane

Maybe someday you too can feel the feeling that I can’t explain

Because life is too short not to try something of this sort
