Developing Countries using EDGE Green
Building Rating System
Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Pakistan Chapter
was formed in 2018 by energy professionals from
academia and industry. AEE Pakistan Chapter aims to
promote the scientific and educational interests of those
engaged in the energy sector and to foster action for
sustainable green development through promoting energy
efficiency and renewable energy in Pakistan.
Background
Buildings account for about 40% of the total global energy
consumption thus providing a huge opportunity to reduce
carbon emissions. EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater
Efficiencies) is a green buildings platform developed by IFC
that includes a green building standard, a software
application, and a certification program for more than 150
countries.
The intent of EDGE is to democratize the green buildings
market, which was previously reserved for higher-end
buildings standing in primarily industrialized nations. EDGE
aims to create a new path for green growth by proving the
financial case in a practical, action-oriented way that
emphasizes a quantitative approach. This approach closes
the gap between non-existent or weakly-enforced green
building regulations in developing countries and expensive
international standards. This webinar will focus on the
design and construction of energy efficient buildings in
Pakistan by employing EDGE Rating System.
Speaker Profiles
Dr. Muhammad Bilal Sajid
Dr. Sajid holds a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering. His primary
areas of interest are green buildings and industrial energy management.
He has acquired distinguished professional credentials such as Certified
Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), LEED Green
Associate, TRUE Advisor and EDGE Expert & Auditor. Dr. Sajid has
worked on a collaborative project with Arizona State University which
aimed at promoting energy efficiency in the building sector of Pakistan.
He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at U.S.-Pakistan
Center for Advanced Studies in Energy, NUST.

Rafia Akbar
Rafia Akbar is the treasurer of AEE Pakistan chapter. She is
an Energy Systems engineer whose research interests lie at
the intersection of energy, environment and sustainability.
She is also an Energy Manager in Training (EMIT), LEED
Green Associate and an EDGE Expert. Currently she is
working as a Project Engineer at U.S.-Pakistan Center for
Advanced Studies in Energy, NUST and as a visiting faculty
member at School of Art, Design and Architecture, NUST.
