Narration is non-
diegetic Recap
• Non-diegetic sound is
any sound which does not come
directly from the world of the story
onscreen.
• Traditional film music and voice-over
narration are typical examples
of non-diegetic sound.
• The characters in the film are
unaware of these sounds, because
they don't exist in their world.

Types of Narration

• FIRST PERSON speaker - In this point of view, the

character is telling the story from their own
perspective. This style of narration reveals the
inner most thoughts of the character
speaking, "I" and "me" or "we"
• SECOND PERSON speaker – This type of the
narration is directed towards another character
on the screen or the viewer "you," "your," and
"yours” (more popular in advertising)
• THIRD PERSON speaker - In this point of view, an
external narrator is telling the story. A third
person narrator may even be God-like and poetic
in their expression. "he," "she," "it," or "they"
