Educational Philosophy

1. All students can learn.

Academic success is not determined by economic backgrounds, social class, or race. It is my job as

an educator reach all students despite the trials and tribulations they may face at home.

2. Students learn best when there is a positive relationship between student and teacher.

Mutual respect between the teacher and students can increase the academic success in the classroom.

Positive relationships in the classroom can also help lower behavioral problems.

3. Each student learns in his or her own way.

To be a successful educator, you must differentiate your instruction to meet the needs and interests of

each individual student. It is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that every student is meeting their

maximum potential.

4. It is my responsibility as the teacher to help students succeed.

If students are not meeting expectations then I as the teacher am failing, not the students. It is critical

as an educator to constantly reflect and adjust accordingly to help students succeed.

5. Students deserve maximum effort from their teacher.

Students deserve a teacher who is supportive, demanding, and intentional. This means that students

deserve a teacher who has high expectations for all students, builds a classroom community, and has

organized lesson plans.

6. Students can and will have “off” days, and that is okay.

There is a culture in school where students are constantly forced into thinking that being wrong or

having a bad day is not okay. It is critical to make your classroom a safe space for students where they

know they can be themselves and won’t be judged for it.

7. Students should be permitted to think freely in the classroom.

Not all students have the same viewpoint and life experiences and allowing students to share these

experiences with one another can cultivate classroom camaraderie. As an educator, we should help

expose students to a wide array of subjects so that they can formulate their own opinion and views.
