Iris: Good day to all of you, we are the Kabataan Partylist

Jean: And we are here to educate youths all around our country about the Philippine Politics and
Governance.
Sheryl: But first why do you think we study politics?
Kurt: There are 3 reasons why we study politics
Number 1: Government and politics impacts nearly every aspect of our lives.
Whether we like it or not, government plays a huge role in our daily lives. Having an understanding can
help us determine the best course of action for ourselves and our family, regarding a wide range of
issues.

Lenard:
Number 2: Having knowledge of politics helps make you an informed voter.
An informed voter is able to use his or her vote to express their concerns and advocate for what they
care about. Having an understanding of who the candidates are and where they stand on the issues
helps you make informed voting decisions and use your vote more effectively.

Leoneil:
Number 3: Politics Prepares You for Adult Life
In our country we all know that teenagers who reach their 18th birthdays will have the ability to vote
and that will give us the opportunity to change our nation and allow the principles we hold. In which it
prepares us to made a decision for ourselves which reminds us that we are near to our adult life which
we should be prepared of.

Sheryl: Now let us define what politics is.

Politics are the activities associated with the governance of a country or an area which usually are
consisting of debate and conflict among individuals or parties which are hoping to achieve power.
One basic example of politics that a teenager like you encounters is in school is when you were electing
and voting the rightful class officers that will lead the class in the whole year.

Mae: Let us proceed to the two approaches to the study of politics

First is the Political Philosophy
Political Philosophy is the traditional approach in which the primary goal is to understand the essence or
the truth about politics.
The second one is the Political Science
Political Science is the branch of knowledge that deals with the systems of government

Jobelisa: System of Government

The Philippines is a unitary presidential constitutional republic, with the President of the Philippines who
acts as both the head of state and head of government

Unitary is the control of national and local affairs under the central or national government
Presidential is the president is the both head of state and head of government
Constitutional is the powers of those who rule are defined and limited by the constitution
And the Republic is the power exercised by a group or persons chosen by people to act as their
representatives.

Cielo: And now the Democracy, we all have a background knowledge about Democracy because it is the
system of government that our country is using but let me give you a further background of what
Democracy is really is.

Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state
typically through elected representatives. Democracy is also called the “rule of the people” in which the
citizens exercise power directly or elect representatives from among themselves to form a governing
body. It also sometimes referred to as “rule of the majority”

Iris: So now let’s proceed to Governance.

Governance is the exercise of power or authority by a political leader for the well being at their
country’s citizens or subject. It also refers to as the manner of governing and controlling a group of
people or state.

In short, governance is how the elected leader in a country governs or lead his or her country. In
governance the leader elected make certain decisions and actions in order to make an improvement in
his or her subject area.

So upon learning the meaning of governance, let us now find out the difference between Governance
and Government.
Government is the group of people who rule or run the administration of a country while Governance is
how that certain group of people rules or governs a country. In short Government is the people and
Governance is the action.

On the other hand there are also Political Ideologies which are defined as the set of ethical ideals,
principles, doctrines, myths or symbols of a social movement that explains how society should work.

These ideologies are important because they shape how we perceive and interact with the world and
also affect the voting choices we make and the policies we support.

In general there are 5 major Political Ideologies: Anarchism, Absolutism, Liberalism, Conservatism and
Socialism.

Anarchism is a political philosophy and movement that is skeptical of authority and rejects all
involuntary, coercive forms of hierarchy. Anarchism calls for the abolition of the state, which it holds to
be undesirable, unnecessary and harmful.
Absolutism is also known as “Divine Right Theory”. It is a political ideology that promotes a system of
government in which the ruler or rulers have unlimited power and are subject to no constitutional
safeguards or checks
Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on liberty, consent of the governed and equality
before the law. Liberalism support ideas and programs such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press,
freedom of religion, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, secular governments, gender
equality and international cooperation.
Conservatism is a political and social philosophy promoting traditional social institutions in the context
of culture and civilization. ... Conservatives seek to preserve a range of institutions such as organized
religion, parliamentary government, and property rights, with the aim of emphasizing continuity.
Socialism is a range of economic and social systems characterized by social ownership and democratic
control of the means of production as well as the political theories, and movements associated with
them.

3 Branches of Government.

The Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branch. We all have an idea what these 3 branches are, but let
me elaborate them for you to understand them more. Let us proceed to the Legislative Branch

The Legislative branch is authorized to make laws, and repeal them through the power vested in the
Philippine Congress. This institution is divided into the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Wherein the Congress of the Philippines is the national legislature of the Republic of the Philippines.
The senate is composed of 24 senators which are elected every three years. Each senator serves a total
of six years.

The House of Representatives is composed of maximum of 250 congressmen.

Next is the Executive Branch, this branch carries out laws and composed of the President and the Vice
President who are elected by direct popular vote and serve a term of six years. This branch is charged
with the execution and administration of a country’s laws. Wherein the president is assisted by a
cabinet.
