TEST: Use of SMCP for Routine Communication (VHF Regulations)

(set-up time 3 minutes, timing: 60 min)

Routine VTS Communication


Perform a VHF communication using the prompts given. Apply the IMO-SMCP
including Message Markers for transmitting the messages.
MT Delta/ONAZ Trento Coast Guard
call Trento Coast Guard on VHF Ch 11
- call the MT using her name
- want her to switch to VHF Ch 69
- call Trento Coast Guard on VHF Ch 69
- inform that you are just passing Trento Light
Vessel
- want her to confirm whether there is one
vessel astern.
- ask what her call sign is

- confirm that, then answer that your call sign is


ONAT, then inform that this call sign
transmitted is not correct.
- correct saying again your call sign which is
ONAZ
- read back the corrected call sign
- ask in what position she is, then ask the
course and speed of the ship

-confirm that message, then say that you are 1


nm from Trento Light Vessel, you steer 217° at
a speed of 12 kn
you need to know her port of destination and
her last port of call
respond that you come from Antwerp and you
are bound for Porto Varnero
-ask whether she has got dangerous goods
on board
-want her to inform about the cargo she is
carrying
inform that this is not the case, then tell the
VTS operator that you carry 32,250 metric tons
of gas oil
Read back cargo, then advise her to call again
on VHF Ch 67 when passing Reporting Point

- confirm that you will do so
